Will Ford be putting the 6.2 boss in the F150?

I will be surprised if they don't make it a production option for the F-150 in most, if not all, of the trim levels. Ford has done a pretty good job of listening to customers and responding to their wants and needs and more power has been one of them. The F-150 is already a towing machine but with the 6.2 or the 5.0 it would be all the sweeter.

- Raptor: YES
- Super Duty: YES
- Harley: Ford says no, yet model at auto show had a 6.2 in it. So: Probably
- Other F150s: We don't know yet.
Story @ PickupTruck.com 2-3 months ago said yes on many levels. Ford has not confirmed. It would make sense that they would especially with baby diesel dead or on shelf as what will be the grunt, tow engine post 5.4L. And no it won't be the 5.0L or the EB.

I think if the do offer it.....we'll all be suprised when its not in every truck bought...
Its gunna be like the chevy 6.0 (or is it a 6.2??) that they offer and its only bought in like 10 percent of trucks....
It would be cool if they offered it, but i don't think its going to be the big hitter...

6.2 Boss Engine
Hi Folks-
The Boss 6.2 (Premium Series) Engine form Ford will be offered as an option in the F-150 trucks . I had previously mentioned this after a visit to the Romeo Engine plant earlier last month. I was told this by more than one management person. Ford realizes(finally) that there IS a market for this engine in the 1/2 ton trucks. The facts are it will be offered in approximately 65-75% of the F-150 model types, and not just the Raptor ,Harley Davidson,Platinum,etc.. Cylinder heads are OHC 2 Valve configuration with generous size valves and ports. Expect to see more news midyear of 2010, as obviously the 2010 order guide does not reflect this at this time . Stay Tuned!

Im cynical about the boss being in a regular f150 but I agree the five oh or tt 35 will be more than enough for most of us. Im honestly on the fence between the two. Im just going to have to wait for real world info on them. I will not be the guinne pig for Ford being a beta tester.
Does this sound plausible? The TT 3.5 getting about 15/22 mpg? I dont think the 5.0 could get close to that. Maybe 14/20 Im talking 2wd here now. I sure wish we knew more about what they are doing.
ONe thing is probably for sure. When they pack that 3.5 TT into the Mustang those babys are going to move out. Im a V8 guy by nature but its starting to make me think a little.

I believe Ford already has an eco-boost 5.0. It is coming out this year in the Jaguar.
It is a direct injection engine that is supercharged with a new type charger that is way down in the engine valley.
Jaguar has also released a non-charged 5.0. DI engine that is rated at 375hp / 375Tq. However this is on premium fuel and the peak HP is at 6500RPM. The bore and stroke is approximately 3.65 x 3.65. That is about the same as Ford's rumored 5.0.
Obviously Ford just sold Jag, However I imagine they kept rights to these engines and I would bet anything that it is the same 5.0 that Ford will be rolling out.

If ford does as bad a job with the eco-boost as they did with the 6.4 you will be sadly disappointed. Driveability will suffer to the point of being dangerous in certain circumstances. The 6.4's had terrible throttle lag, expecially if you had to back off for just a moment and then needed acceleration, like on on ramps and when turning at intersections. I know, that's why I got rid of my 08 and am driving an 09 F-150. I would be leary of any twin turbo's from Ford untill I got lots of Forum feedback from satisfied owners.
