putting any chevy in a classic ford is one of my pet peeves i hat eit if i go to a car show and i see a 350 chevy in a 46 ford coupe i will walk away ford 302 parts are just as plentiful as the chevy smallblock does anyone else ever get tired of seeing the ole 350 ,350 turbo combo in everything at a show but every man to his own my fords will never be burdened by a chevy
i always wanted to have a 69 chevy camaro restored to show quality with a bigblock ford drivetrain and drive to the local car shows ha ha ha be so funny

You're right...They wouldn't be burdened at all! Ha Ha. I know what you mean, to me there's nothing more boring than walking up to a car at a show with a 350/350 with all kinds of tacky bowtie or heartbeat dress up stuff. That being said, I plan to do the 350 route in my '60 but the hood will stay closed until it has a nice set of Cal Customs valve covers and anything else I can get to make it look "right." Even then it'll be tough to display it. But I already own it, and it is far and away better than any Ford engine I've ever personally used- everything just makes sense...that being said the only Ford engines I've ever had were Y Blocks...
Anyway, it comes down to what you want, and what you want to work on when things break. Having a distributor up front would be handy, though!

sam tell yer son he's getting the chev's and yer putting the nailhead in yer truck !!!!!!!!! as long as i dont see another bellybutton in anything ...... chev's aren't bad they're just blase . to much / many of 'em . it's the easy route as theres no thought involved .... the nail head would look purty in it . me if it was mine well ... i still got two fe's , dain durable things they are , a yblock , and like myt i just latched onto a 95 bird to drive , and have owned a crown vic pi , before . i'd love to use that birds suspension and that peppy lil' 4.6 in a truck . i will have an extra frame if i ever get it home from ohio ..... it's boring to see the chev in everything , be different sam !!!!!!!!!! oh pipman there was a guy ran around here that popped his 400 in his trans am of 76 vintage , instead of the obvious routes aka another poncho , which is a good thing , or a boring chevy , he dropped of all thigns a 428 scj in it .. you shoulda seen the looks he got some smiles others of disdain , but he was happy !!!!!!oh and yeah everyones chev might outrun my flathead , but i think after 56 years she's proven to be dependable and a whole lot more fun !!!!!!!!

Well, with about 600 opinions already, I gotta throw mine in there two;
I'm a staunch believer in Ford in a Ford. I'm also very true to my Scottish heritage and lastly I am also a strong proponant of " it's you're truck, do whatever you want"
After all that, if it were me I'd go with the SBC purely for the $ savings (since you already have it) Not sure how much of a factor $ is to you though....
I'll bet none of this helped at all, eh.........

Course, that flap is in the intake, so you COULD change it be 4V all the time!..
Comp makes cams for these beasts, that support stock computer and modified.

I found a smokin deal on a 06 5.4l & tranny, complete with harness and accessories. (course I had to drive 200 miles each way tonight to get it!..)
SO, I will transplant the 5.4l into my 4.6l 06 f150 (giving it much needed go power, hauling power, and then hand down the 4.6l to the 56... (both have approx same mileage)..
so, for less than I expected, I get to kill two problems!...
