P0229

Hey All,

So I finally got sick of the CEL being on and the P0229 code springing up all the time and took it in. I just got off the phone and they told me that yeah its definatly over boosting, but the turbo was cleaned already. Thats the bad news. I also told them that I dont really drive it too much so maybe the turbo is stuck again.

They are looking into in and they are going to rule out any of the mods first.

The good news is that there is no damage to the head gaskets...thank god. I just dont want that repair done right now.

So what does everyone here think, is it time for a new turbo, and is that what they are probably going to do after they double check everything else.

Also if they clean it again should it/will it be ok as long as I get out and drive her everynow and again.

Hopefully once this is fixed I will not have to deal with it anymore and I can continue on my way with that tell tale 6.0 grin.

Thanks,

Sarge

Dang, you have all that $ in mods and you don't drive it that much? Did cleaning the turbo work last time?

I cant remeber but I think it did. I have moved up quicker than expected in the FD and now that I am a chief I am given a truck to drive. We frown upon personal vehicles being used in emergencies up here so its pretty much a no no. However, I do drive the truck its got 56k on it so its no garage queen. It it more now than it was but I still have to get my fix every week so when the other chiefs are on duty I drive the SD.

Its not the best for her but it will keep the miles off it for a bit. I was concerned now cause I am going to PA to see my cousin graduate and will be climbing some steep grades on the way from Albany to Reading PA and then from there to Penn State.

Just on of those shameless bumps to get back to the top of the page. I called the dealership late yesterday afternoon and the tech still hasnt figured it out. I am still not completely sure that the turbo isnt bad again.

I hope to hear more tomarow and have it back by the weekend so I can work it a little before my trip to PA

Thats what I am hoping they do with mine too. They were just making sure that nothing else was worng. I was worried about the HG but the tec said I did the right thing, got it in and babied it while she was acting up. He drove it and it was actually boosting over 40 psi.

I think maybe the unison ring is causing some isues too, every now and then I hear a screech from the turbo on start up. I am crossing my fingers that its just the turbo, but I am glad the HG dont need to be replaced.

They still havent gotten to the truck yet, guess I will have to reschedule the trip for the next weekend. The wife and I were going to take a drive up to Maine this weekend but thats out now.

I just wish they would put the turbo on it and I can have my truck back...man I miss it.

It was a P0299 c0de not 229. I dont think the P0229 even exists. Took me 3 days to catch that mistake...DOH!!!

Well,

They finally pulled the turbo today and I should know by tomarrow whats going on. They said more than likely it will need a new turbo...Its been cleaned once. I guess I am going to have to get the tech a case or bottle of his favorite liquid refresment, and a gift card for some lunch on me for the service advisors.

I agree, and with your mods I would tread lightly, them taking a little extra time vrs. denying warranty if they should get p******.

I just got the call, 1 new turbo will be installed in the am after it arrives. Hopefully i will see some of the fuel mileage you guys are getting, and I will be happy with the 6.0 grin again. I also gathered all the parts to put the stock air cleaner back on so I should be good to go now.

Yeah me too, although I wish they found it sooner...I told them when I dropped it off it needed a turbo but you know how that goes. Anyway I am lucky to have another truck to drive.

I just wish that I would have more time to drive it around before I went away but oh well it will be fixed and I will have a good trip so no worries.

No not FDNY...spent a lot of time down there after 911 though helping out. I am a Chief in a 60 memeber volunteer department up here in NY.

Anyway I will need a new I/C boot also at the turbo, should have it back tomarrow...so just enough time to maybe clean it up and get going down the road.
