Looks like I'll be working for myself tomorrow (busted water line)
This sounds crazy I know, but the line that feeds my house comes from a meter a quarter mile away on the main road. THE LINE runs alongside the back of one, and through two other properties. So my main supply line is on three other peoples land!
The utility company came out, and stood on their standard by-line: They don't fix anything past the meter.
Oh yippee.....
The kicker is that the line is busted directly beneath one of the neighbors fence posts. We know what broke the line, in other words.
Oh well. They don't have any money either
Time for some old fashioned "NAVY KNOWHOW"
*Anyone out this way has an old pickaxe they don't need, I could sure use one.
You know - sometimes I think this kind of stuff don't never quit. But I never quit either!

I hope it's just a puncture and not a whole bad line....... YIKES!
You are probably ready for a little humor:
A Kansas farm wife called the local phone company to report her telephone failed to ring when her friends called - and that on the few occasions, when it did ring, her dog always moaned right before the phone rang.
The telephone repairman proceeded to the scene, curious to see this psychic dog or senile lady. He climbed a telephone pole, hooked in his test set, and dialed the subscriber's house.
The phone didn't ring right away, but then the dog moaned and the telephone began to ring.
Climbing down from the pole, the telephone repairman found:
1. The dog was tied to the telephone system's ground wire with a steel chain and collar.
2. The wire connection to the ground rod was loose.
3. The dog was receiving 90 volts of signaling current when the number was called.
4. After a couple of jolts, the dog would start moaning and then urinate.
5. The wet ground would complete the circuit, thus causing the phone to ring.
Which demonstrates that some problems CAN be fixed by pissing and moaning...

I take it with a grain of sand. You know how military humor runs: The worse it gets the funnier it is.
Next thing they wanted to tell me was they could relocate the water meter, but they would charge me for it. Yeah right!~ and then I would have to dig up a gravel driveway and the whole front yard to connect to it.
*I wonder if I could sublet myself as my own contracter and bill the whole wretched mess to my insurance company? Moot point.
PS: My roomate said to say howdy. He figures you're as crazy as he is...

I think I'd extend that to include all construction workers!
But I know who has them all beat. US NAVY Construction Battalions!!!
One good thing did come out of this - the line was busted before directly under a fence post, and "repaired" with a plastic splice. I'd describe it as a "Double Clamp". It has a compression fitting at each end, with a rubber seal.
It was badly done originally, and the seals were going bad. I would never recommend using one of those to anybody even as a quick-fix.
