Center Console and Bench Seat?

Center Console and Bench Seat?
I am thinking of using a center console in my 56, but really want to keep the Bench seat. Just wondering if anyone else has ever done this. I can see that there will be a potential drawback of effectively limiting the use of the center of the seat due to the restricted leg room. But as I am using a manual trans, there will be the gear stick in the way anyway.
I am thinking of a center console that comes down from the dash to the floor in front of the seat.
Just wondering if it would actually look ok?
Cheers

Lee,
LOL...thats always been the fun part of having a 4sp and a bench seat, especially if you have a shiny young darling sitting next to you....reverse can be fun....lol....those were the days.......
There have been several guys fabbing their own consoles. The two that come to mind are AXracer and mt54;

Will the shifter interfere with the bench seat? will you have to notch the seat?

Have you thought about a pull down console, one that was part of the seat but could be, er, pulled down? I always liked this idea because you could have a console without giving up the seat if you needed. Back of my old Audi use to have one, it was just an arm rest but making a console that way would be pretty easy.
I really like consoles and bucket seats, but I like my girl sitting next to me more

not sure where reverse on the 5 speed I am using is but I reckon it could be interesting...
Thanks for the links, I like the look of AX's small console, I might try mocking something similar up nice Idea with the tube too.
My Shift should be just clear of the front edge of the seat, I will probably have to have a slight dog leg in the stick to make sure I will be able to get all gears.

I think I know what you mean, but do you have any pics?
