01 Expy Intermittingly Stalls at Start-up
Hello my fellow ford owners,
After spending countless hours on the web looking for a solution, I'll try making one last ditch before I embark to the local Ford dealer. The local flagship dealer here in orlando charges 90.00 an hour just to start!
My 2001 Expy, 2WD, 4.6 L, 103K miles; intermittingly stalls on startup when parked for at least four hours. It only happens perhaps once or twice a week. It's as if it's being choked of fuel. I turn the key, it's revs up to about 1.5K RPMs and drops down to .5 to .4K and finally dies. It will continue to do this everytime I try eventually becoming stranded. I've read it may be a vacuum problem, but I don't hear anything unusual?
A work around I've discovered is if I use both the brake and gas pedal, kind of like flying an airplane..LOL, giving it a little push to rev up the idle while holding the brake, I can slip the tranny into drive without peeling out. Interestingly enough, the condition seems to go away after I drive it for a while, maybe at least 10 mins or so. It's becoming so unreliable that I won't allow my wife to drive it in fear of having her stranded with the kids. I wouldn't expect her to try driving the truck using both feet!
Here is what I've tried:
1. Replaced Fuel Filter
2. Replaced PCV Elbow including some valve attached to one end.
3. No ODB-II codes
4. Replaced the fuel hose going into the injector body
5. Been continously topping off the tank using Chevron Fuel Inj Cleaner
6. Did the Wal-Mart fuel injector cleaning
7. Sears did a batter load check, results were good
Any other suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
If I find the answer on my own, I'll still post so others can see.
Thanks so much in advance...

Hi LxMan,
Thanks for the reply. I browsed another forum later day and rolled the dice in replacing the IAC and waalaaa...no problems thus far. I went down to Discount Auto, picked one up for a little less than 50.00 and it only took 5 mins to change since it's located right on top of the engine.
It's been almost a week and it's running great! In fact, once I started it up, it purred like a kitty-kat! It has never sounded so well since I've owned it.
Thanks again for your help...God Bless!
