Are you running a pump from a rack and pinion ford or one with a standard steering box. I thought I remember hearing that the R&P pump was actually a little lower pressure and steering was a bit stiff.

I am running a standard PS box like you would find on a 60s to 80s fullsize ford. An 80 LTD in my case. I have not heard what you say (not doubting you though). Think I will look in my 94 Mustang manual for pressures with the Rack and Pinion pump. Tire size is going to come into play somewhat as well.

If you could post up what you find about the Mustang pump pressure I would appreciate it. For some reason 800 psi sticks in my mind versus 1200 for the other type of pump. Not sure what the dodge pump would be either.

1994 Stang 5.0 minimum pressure 1050 pounds.
Reaching way back in my memory here, but I think the Chrysler numbers were in the 900-950 neighorhood. I think you are right about the old style Ford pump putting out about 1200psi. When I bought my truck, it had a Chevy engine very briefly). The GM pump was also more than enough PSI.

Not sure what pump you have, I'am using the pump from a 77 ford 302 has the dip stick. I used the volare high side hose cut the pump end off and used what some call a hose saver its just a steel line pushed into the rubber hose works sorta of like a compression fitting. the one nut has a sleeve that slides into the hose, then you slide the steel line in the fitting and tighten it up. The end that goes to the pump is a double flare with a nut that attaches to the back of the pump.
