2005 F250 Slow Fuel Fill
I have an 05 F250 and I am having trouble filling the tank. When I fill the tank it keeps tripping the fuel delivery nozzle off. I have to fill it VERY slowly to prevent this from happening. It takes 20 or mnutes to fill it!!!! I have done some research on line and I am aware of the problems with the carbon canister getting plugged with dust and debris. This truck was used in a mining operation so it doesn't surprise me that this has happened.
But before I spent alot of money on a new canister, I thought that I would look for a cheaper fix. I took off the vent box, downstream of the carbon canister and blew it out with shop air. No Luck. So I decided to replace the filter box. Put the new one on but no luck. Next I decided to try the vent solenoid between the filter box and the canister. I removed the hose between the vent solenoid and the canister. And this solved the issue. I was able to fill the tank without any problem. So naturally I assumed that I had found the faulty part. I took the vent solenoid off and tried to clean it but quickly decided to replace it instead. I put an new one on, replaced the hose and went to fill it and the problem was back. I did check to ensure that I didn't get a faulty solenoid, but it works fine (i.e solenoid fires the valve closed when 12 volts it applied and springs back to open when power is removed).
So, with the vent line between the canister and the vent solenoid off...it fills with no problem. I assume this means that the canister is NOT plugged otherwise the problem would still exist.....
Help, what am I missing here..........

I could be way off base with this one but i have had the same thing happen from time to time. I don't know if yours does it at any station or pump but mine seems to do it only with fast delivery pumps. I also have noticed that with a faster filling pump if i invert the nozzle in the filler hole it solves the problem.

This happen to my 2006 Ford F250 5.4L (gasoline eng). I had to change the Carbon Canister and the fresh air box. The last owner was a logger and used the truck in dusty conditions. Once I changed everything I had no problems filling up my truck. Here is the TSB on this issue https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas...tml/Q132R1.pdf

I bought a 2005 F250 from county surplus auction. Tired of sending money to banks.
Bought it at 96K and it now has 112K and has done it since my day one. Anyhow, mine still is a problem because when I checked it was about 500 for the cannister assembly.
It is definitely temperamental towards pumps, temp, etc. Some days fills up like a gravity feed racer and on some days sit and hold.
What is constant, however, is that whenever my wife is in the truck and I need to fill it, it will be worse than ever so she can tell me what a POS it is and I should get rid of it.

Many thanks to all who posted ideas for me. It's much appreciated.
I'll have to try that trick of turning the nozzle upside down. Sounds interesting. I guess that I will have to replace the canister. Still baffled though at why it seems to vent fine when the line from the carbon canister is removed and it has a straight shot to atmosphere to vent....but when I connect up the vent solenoid, which I know is also open to atmoshpere, that it doesn't vent properly. To me that would indicate that the canister is NOT plugged.....anyone want to weigh in on why this would happen?

Guys, the problem keeps getting a little worse as time goes on. Turning the nozzle, hopping on one foot, holding your breath, even clicking your heals wont help. It only buys time.
Here are your choices.
1- Spend the outrageous amount and fix it.
2- Live with it.
Yes it suxs, but this is the engineering wisdom for 05-06 trucks. Maybe you could try salvage yards with the venting tube towards the front/middle of the canister, just a thought.
