I recently purchased a 1966 2WD F-350 dually rack truck and wanted to post the VIN hoping someone could decode it.

The VIN is F35BE859007

wheelbase 132 Color L Model f-350 body 381

Trans A Axle 22 gvw 10000

It has a rubber pushbutton on the floor to pump the washer fluid out to the windshield, the battery access is a hole in the floor under the passengers feet, no radio and a factory PTO that runs off the transfer case. It has a 4 speed transmission with the granny gear, transmission parking brake (bell housing type) Engine is a straight 6 with 67000 original miles. What a beast. This truck is fun to drive although I havent taken it up past 45 mph yet.

What would the PTO be used for?

Why would a 2wd truck have a transfer case? PTO could have been used for a number of things.

No transfer case I meant to say transmission. I have other fords that are 4x4 and made a mistake

 

PTO could of been for a dump bed option or something like that. Do you have any picture to share???
Don't see too many F350 especially dually.

IMO, Thats a nice truck...what is shown in the 1st 3 pics...uncut dash, dashpad which looks good...and original paint...so far I like what I see...

You didn't post your DSO code, from the pic in your gallery of the Warranty Plate, it's 13.

DSO 13 = New York City Ford District Sales (Zone) Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.

Since the DSO code is two numbers, the P.T.O. was added after the sale.

Ford offered a factory installed Platform & Rack aka a Stake Bed. Since it was an RPO (Regular Production Order), the truck isn't considered a special order because of it.

The stake bed will not be factory....unless it has F O R D in block letters at the rear.

If it does not, the stake bed was added after the sale...which means the original purchaser bought the truck as a Cab & Chassis.

If the DSO is 6 digits, DSO refers to a Domestic Special Order. If the P.T.O. was factory installed, the truck would be a Domestic Special Order and have a 6 digit DSO.

btw: Is it 67,000 miles? I kinda doubt it after looking at the pics.

The seat has been re-upholstered, the original floor mat is missing. The pedal pads, gearshift **** and steering wheel are worn, the exterior paint is down to the primer in several places.

The odometers of these trucks only read to 99,999.9 then return to ZERO. So...it could have 67,000 miles, or 167,000 miles, 267,000 miles or who knows.

My truck sat outside for over 20 years until I repainted it in the late 1980's. The paint was still very good, the seat was original, with only a minor split. The floor mat looked like new, and the truck had been driven 157,000 miles before I restored it.

One good accessory you might consider would be the Bose noise cancelling headset, if you plan to drive at higher speeds. Like 46mph, 47mph...

 

Thanks Numberdummy, I was hoping you would see this thread and comment on it. The bed of the truck or stake body does have FORD on block letters across the back so I would guess it would be original. As for the mileage, god only knows if it is original I do doubt it. I got the truck for a very good price and plan to haul alot of wood with it. It has 6 like new radial tires on it. It runs pretty smooth. The previous owner said he drove it to Florida and back ( From Upstate NY). He also told me he changed the gear ratio in the rear end for better mileage. The control lever for the PTO is missing. I have no Idea what type of control it would be. I'm thinking I might just get my use out of it and decide if its a keeper or not. I am wondering if that PTO would bolt on to my Transfer case of my 4x4 trucks.

 

F O R D: The Platform & Rack (Stake Bed) is correct.

There was a total of 4,596 1966 F350 Platform & Racks assembled.

What transmissions do your other trucks have?

There is a 6 bolt rectangular block off plate on the passenger side of the New Process 435 4 speed that when removed, allows a PTO to be installed.

The Warner 4 speed transmissions (T-18, T19, T98) have a similar block off plate in about the same location for this purpose.

 

On that topic Bill, how do the T-18, T19 and T98 transmissions differ?

 

I have a 1967 f-250 4x4 and a 1974 f-250 4x4. I think the transfer cases have the plate you are talking about on the side. - New process cases

 

Both the transmissions and the transfer cases have these plates.
