can you weld can you fabricate, or have someone willing to help you do it, then yes it can be done, im about to do this with a wastegated version off a 1999 stroke, it has the smaller1.00 exaust housing ratio, which will help it spool quicker
ok better question what can i use off of the powerstroke?
Just the turbo.... Nothing else will fit without major modifications. With all the time and labor involved in making everything, you'd be ahead getting a system built for the IDI. Not saying it couldn't be done, but unless you have really great fab skills, it may not work as well as one made for the IDI.
even with great fab skills it wont work as well as the kits for the IDI that turbo is quite a bit differnt than the ones for the IDI's and won't work near as well. I know there used to be some one on here that had put a Powerstroke turbo on an IDI, don't know if he's still around.
well im about to start to start this project cause i got a super deal on a wastegated psd turbo, with nothing rong with it, and i couldnt resist the price, if you think you can do it or you want to do it then do it
yes it will but one thing about the factory turbos, ford crushed the downpipe and made the outlet housing smaller. ats sells a downpipe and outlet housing kit,
ok thanks i know about fords down pipes i replaced the factory one on my dads old 97 stroker when i put his 4 inch on i just cant see spending $1500+ on a turbo kit when i paid 1500 for my truck
dyoung14, an A/R of 1.0 is not that small, most of the ATS kits run .70 or .85 A/R turbos on an IDI.
The 1.0 will produce higher boost at high RPM, but spool much slower at lower RPM.
The 97 Stroke used the same downpipe the 93-94 IDI turbo did.
That was a big part of why the 97 Stroke only put out 235 HP.
But that was an increase from the 215 HP they started with in 94.

the 94-97 powerstrokes had a 1.15 a/r, vs. the 1999-03 strokes, had the 1.00, that why i said it would be better than the non gated turbo.
