How may built per plant

According to Mid Fifty, the production numbers were:
1953 Pickup- 116,437 Panel- 9,951
1954 Pickup- 101,202 Panel- 8,078
1955 Pickup -124,842 Panel- 11,198
1956 Pickup- 127,581 Panel- 14,023

If there were 17 plants in 55, and my truck was # 20911 from the Norfolk plant, could it be one of the last built that year? And, if so could it have had a 272 in it?

The truck appears to have the stock motor and transmission and I was told that the plants would use the parts they had on hand if they ran out. My engine was rebuilt and painted blue, however all the bolt on parts are red under the paint and the transmission is still the original red like the 56 272s.

I guess we've all learned that anything is possible.

But remember with these serial numbers that they start at 10001 for the first truck at each plant for the year.

I figured that so that should make it 10910 which is still a high number for one of 17 plants. Is there a listing of production numbers per plant out there?

David,
According to Earl's World, the '56 engines were yellow with black accessories. My '56 had a 6 cylinder and it was yellow. Here's a link to the page from the dealer brochure.

Good Luck!

I'm sure there has to be somewhere - finding it is another matter. If he doesn't come along inthe next day or so, try sending a PM to Numberdummy - If anyone would know, or know where to find it, Bill will.

Thanks Julies.

It would be interesting to know how may trucks they could put out a day before all the robotics computers and all. If you do the math it average between 17 locations around 8000 per plant per year or 666 per month or 22 per day. I'm a little slower at 1 not even close at 5 mos so far. :-)
