Towing a TT w/F150

Hey guys, I have been lurking around here for awhile and decided it was time to register and post. So I am going to go big for my first post.
Here is my question that has probably been beat to death...I have an 04 F150 Super Cab short bed, 4.6 auto, 33's, 3:55's. It has an Edge Programmar, Banks exhaust system, and cold air intake. So all this has really helped the little V8. With that being said I have a 30ft (hitch to bumper) TT that I pull. It has a dry weight of 5800lbs. Around here in Southern Ill. is fine but I have never pulled it through the mnts anywhere. I have the stabilizer hitch, trailer brakes...So what I want to know is if anyone pulls something of similar weight and size in the mnts with a 150, if so how did it do? and if anyone has done this over extended amounts of time (years) how has it weighed on your TV? I know it would be easier with a bigger truck and I would like to get one, but I haven't had this one but about 6months, so I would like to hold onto it a bit. Your feed back would be great.
Thanks
oh, and the camper is an 26bbhs??I think Forest River.

Not knowing whether you have the 6.5 or 5.5 bed or whether your truck is 4x4 or not, I checked the '04 towing guide and it shows a range of 5900 - 6300 pounds for the above models. Your trailer weight is probably okay but with the 33s, you're more than likely not at 3.55 any more. Probably not far off but it makes a difference. Even with the Edge and other mods, you might want to think about re-gearing to maybe a 3.73 if your budget allows it - your transmission will probably live longer.

It also depends on how much you plan on towing in the mountains. If it's pretty often, I'd think about at least a 3.73. If it's very seldom, you'll probably be alright. If you don't already have one, invest in a good transmission temp guage and an auxiliary tranny oil cooler.

I used to tow heavy on a regular basis with a '99 F-150 reg. cab 4x4 with the 5.4 / auto. and 3.73s. Pulled great flat, hills, mountains, etc. It was a lighter truck than yours though and had a steeper gear.

I was so busy trying to include everything, I forgot something. It is a 4wd, the edge provides a tranny temp gauge and I will only pull in the mnts every once in a great while. and the bed is 6.5. Thanks for your help.

I had a 04 F150 4x4 with the 3.73's and Crew cab short bed. Mine was a 6500 towing capacity.

I had a 8K trailer at the time. Truck pulled it ok and up some 6% grades. Did some research and a F150 with a 5.4 had the same tranny but could pull more wt. So I was only concerned with the motor.

I figured over time it would not be too good on the so I up graded to a F250.

Best thing I ever did!

But the 150 will do the job, at Yugo speed though.

That is kind of my take on it. I figure if I don't get in a hurry I wil be fine. My biggest concern is getting out away from home with the family and burning something up and being stuck. I would really like to get a 250 and have been looking around a little so I guess I will see what happens. Thanks for the help.

I just got out of a half ton Chevy with a capacity of 8k with a 5.3L. I pulled a 4k lb trailer and about 2k lb's of family and equiptment. Kind of apples and oarnges here but it seemed to work to hard on those big hills... I bought another truck, but if you don't do it often just take it easy on the little fellow and try it once.
