1. Remove the lock cylinder from column.
2. Take a piece of electrical tape and cut it to fit the contact patch on the cylinder.
3. Place it on the cylinder.
4. Reinsert the cylinder into column. Open door and listen to the sound of silence or your stereo.

Looks like the way to go to me....easy to do, and also to undo.
Why cut wires if it isn't necessary?

Ok lets try again. The wire I cut is actually a security wire. Its blue and more dark gray. I had a hard time reaching it but I was able to unplug a group of 4 wires connected to the side of the lock cylinder. From what i can tell all four wires are part of security. Anyway, is the blue / gray wire a blue wire with a small light gray strip or the opposite? Also, are you trying to pull it from the main bundle going up to the steering column or are you pulling it from some of the bundles after they branch off up in the column itself?

Well its done but it was harder than i expected. Anyway, the correct wire is a blue wire with a smaller light gray strip down the side. I ended up going through each wire carefully as many of them looked like a possibility at first. Ended up there were three wires that were close in color. One is blue with dark gray stripe, one was gray with blue stripe but the correct wire is blue with small light gray stripe and its slightly bigger in diameter than gray with blue strip. Be careful cause if you don't have enough light the blue and white wire combos look similar as well. Anyway, I ended up cutting a extra wire that I had to repair but now all is good. I have no dinger with key in ignition with door open or closed. The dinger for the lights on and truck off still works which is good for me.

From the thread; https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...elt-chime.html
To remove the key ;
Turn key to on position
Insert 1/8" round probe into underside of column and press upward to disengage retaining pin.
Pin is seen in photo at lower left of cylinder.
Pull cylinder out of column.
Simply slip cylinder back into column to reinstall.
