Ranchero or Falcon wanted

Hello all!

I posted this in the want ads but i figured that i would post her too to see if anyone can help me out. I am looking to buy a project 1960-69 Ford Falcon or Ranchero running or not. It must be complete with original engine and transmission (preferably 3spd), also with no frame rot or major body rot. I am in the southern suburbs of Chicago and will travel to 150 miles to look at somthing that sounds interesting. If anyone has or knows of one for sale please send me a pm on the forum or an email to me at:

mercman86@sbcglobal.net

thanks for reading and i hope someone can help me out!!

Alex

How familiar are you with Ranchero's?

Ford used caulk when they installed the Ranchero's bed floor over the station wagon's second row seat and floor pan area, over the station wagons spare tire well.

The caulk goes away, water seeps in, rust begins, and it's hidden from view.

It doesn't matter whether the Ranchero spent its entire life in the rust belt or in the desert southwest. This happened to all of them.

Usually the rust issue rears its ugly head when the gas tank falls off, and fall off they do, because above the tank is the spare tire well.

Every Ranchero was built on a station wagon platform from 1957 thru 1979.

The 1960/71's are the worst, because all these are uni-bodies with only a subframe up front for the engine to mount to.

The 1957/59's and 1972/79's are body on frame.

Still want one?

I restored a '57 years ago, it was a CA car from day one. I had to replace the entire floorpan from the back of the front seat to where the rear bumper brackets attach.

Do not be surprised if you have to do the very same thing.

The good news is...the floor pans are now reproduced by Dearborn Classics (dearbornclassics.com-800-252-7427) for 1960/71's.

Bill:

I found a solid one, its a 1966 Ranchero, mostly restored but i checked and went as far as to remove the carpet and look over every square inch of that car and its solid, except for a few spots on the body. I was wondering if you could decode the tag for me:

body: 66A
color: R
Trim: 2D
Date: 09F
D.S.O: 72
Axle: 4
Trans: 1

Any help is appreciated and thanks for all of your info!

I decoded the trim code, and cleared up the DSO question in your other thread.

I hope the station wagon floor pan and spare tire well that's underneath the Ranchero's bed hasn't turned to swiss cheese by now.

While it's not visible from the inside, it may be visible from below, but...

People for years have used undercoating to hid the sins.
