Slundge (brown) under oil fill cap????

I have noticed this before under my oil cap but this time it was a little more that normal. It has been really cold/warm/cold and I drive a short distance to work everyday so I think it is condesation causing this. My coolant level hasn't drop any either. Just wondering if this could be normal considering my driving parameters????

I would say yes, its just your short trip driving. You might want to change oil more often than recommended, that type of driving is hard on the engine, and exhaust system.
And what type and weight of oil are you using, and how cold does it get at night?

I agree with mike. How short of a distance do you go? is all city or highway?

5w30w engine oil is used. I travel anywhere from 6-18kms to and from work. I do highway trips with it also but for the most during the week it is short trips. At night it gets down to about -15c to -28c and usually has been warming up during the day to between -4c to +8c. It is quite a change in outside air temp. The truck has NEVER been overheated and the temp gauge is dead on everytime.

I sometimes get a milky mix on the bottom of the oil cap on my 74' and maybe once on my V10. I attribute it to condensation from the change in temp on the bottom of the cap mixing with oil on the cap. Only notice it during the winter.

If you want to make shure everything OK you can do a UOA to tell you whats in the oil.

It's pretty much normal. What brand of oil? and is it dino or synth?

Short trips make this happen. If you want to get rid of it, just drive it on the highway for 20 minutes and get the thing nice and warm

I thought it was normal, I hope so.

Thanks everyone, I am still gonna do a coolant leak pressure test on it just to be sure. Especially since I am tracking other demons with this motor.

You just opened up a can o worms, lol. Ever since I bought the truck 1 1/2yrs ago i have had a intermittent missfire kinda issue. I am at my ropes end with this problem.

I have replaced the MAF, Cam sensor, plugs(motorcraft), cop boots, feul pump, fuel filter, air filter, replaced the muffler, removed the cat convertor, seafoamed the combustion chamber, ac delco valve/lifter cleaner. I have done regular oil changes and recently blocked off the EGR valve so it was ommitted (actually made it worse and more consistent), tested the fuel pressure I don"t know how many times (getting 29psi @idle and 35psi with key on engine off) even will driving.

THE KICKER IS: I have never had a CEL the entire time I have had the truck and I have scanned it several times with my cheapy scanner.

My friend is going to MOD6 the truck and hook his Snap-on scanner up to it on monday so i really hope he can help.

I have a feeling it is an injector or possibly a COP's, only acts up while driving and accelerating.

AAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!!! HELP

If blocking the EGR off made it worse, I wonder if the EGR ports are partially clogged, and the PCM is confused because it's not getting enough EGR action...

I blocked the egr valve off at the pipe with a penny then bolted the pipe back tight, not with a beer can at the egr to manifold - would that make a difference? I notice a exhaust kinda leaky wierd sound after blocking it off. Definatly is running worse after doing this I haven"t changed it back yet.

Hey Krewat, the egr ports are inside the intake manifold or at the pipe going to the exhaust manifold from DPFE sensor?

thanks

My truck is borderline drivable under any throttle input, bucking and snortin really bad now. The situation has went from tolerable to untolerable. The head gaskets aren't the problem but I have a gut feelin that it is fuel or spark. I will find out Monday and keep you all posted as to the outcome. STILL NO CEL?? The light does work but the ecm ain't picking up??? I hope my buddy's scanner and MOD6 will. If not I am going to sell the truck and buy a diesel, or new 3v V10.

Sorry to hear your trouble. whats the history of the truck? did the owner before you abuse it possibly? or maybe you have a 2nd hand lemon. Ive bought bad vehicles before.

The truck was an ex-forest service truck which I imagine was well used. When I got it it ran good and had 187,000kms on it. The service record at Ford showed regular maintainance and a fuel pump being done. Besides 2nd gear syncro being shot it was a good truck. Now the truck has 208,000 kms on it and for the last while it has been starting to act up but, recently it has been a real problem. They are the origonal COP,s on the truck so I am suspecting they are a problem just the ecm is not picking up on it, or a bad injector. Also has the origonal 02 sensors.
