1994 IDI 7.3 turbo diesel

Hey I just bought a 1994 IDI turbo diesel and was wondering if there was any mods you could do to it get get little more hp with out spending just alot of money and with out taking a chance of hurting the engine or make it less reliable I was wondering about how much hp you would gain by straite piping and turning the pump up about one flat, Thanks

I don't think you would see much difference with just a straight pipe and one flat turn up.Get a pyrometer first if you haven't got one.Things to do, get the ATS turbo outlet 3" downpipe 4" exhaust. The factory downpipe is a real performance killer. Get rid of the plastic air intake on top of your drivers side battery, its a restriction, should be able to turn up fuel 2 or more flats(that's why you need that pyro). Shorten the wastegate rod, by the time you do all that you will think you have a different truck.

The turbo outlet, and the smashed downpipe that Ford used is costing you a lot of HP and low RPM boost.

ATS wants about 500 for the turbo outlet that takes a 3" down pipe and the 3" down pipe.

Another thing if you are good with metal work is get rid of the over the battery air intake and make a 4+ inch cold air intake that goes to the grill area.

With more and cooler air, you can then give it a bit more fuel.

A pyrometer to monitor exhaust gas temps is a good idea before you adjust the fuel so you don't melt the pistons.

With a boost gauge installed, you can also adjust the boost level a bit higher.

And when all that is done, advancing the timing a bit will give you a little more go.
