Power Deployable Running Boards

I am planning to purchase a 2009 Expedition 4x4 with the Power Deployable Running Boards.

Does anyone have any feedback on these? Do you like them? How reliable are they?

I read on another forum that you can set them to: 1) stay open; 2) stay closed; or 3) open when the doors are opened. Is that correct? Do you know if they can be programmed to only open on the passenger side and stay closed on driver side? Maybe this is possilbe with one of the more advanced aftermarket remote start systems?

Thank you.

Bump for some feedback from owners who have this option.

I'm looking at buying another Expy and would like to know if this is worth getting too. Thanks.

Love them, no problems at 45K miles, and yes you can set them to all of those settings. The side that the door comes open is the side that deploys.

Just picked up a 2009 Limited w/ this option, haven't driven it much only a couple times but they don't seem to be as unnecessary as I thought they would be.

So, I'd say get them.

Thanks for the replies.

I actually like how the fixed running boards protect the lower rocker panels from road debris but the power deploy is "neat".

Hmmm what to do? Luckily I'm not buying yet.

I can tell you, the understated single color appearance and painted grill of the Vapor Silver Limited is beautiful.

The chrome luggage rack could use being subdued tho.

Is there anything Vapor Silver on the power running board?

Yes I agree about the chrome luggage rack.

I'm considering the White Limited myself. Thanks.

You can manually open the running boards through the message center, I always do it going through the car wash. Once you drive the vehicle a couple miles an hour, they will close automatically, you can't force them to stay open while driving.

The VS color was less available than the white, there are a ton of them.

Have you heard what the new Ford incentives are.

Tey were to be released on the 12th.

No I just emailed my guy last night.

My question was whether the power deploying running board had any of the Limited color on it? I haven't seen a Limited with the power boards. I believe it was just chrome with the black plastic (or rubber?) step surface.

Thanks.

Oops nevermind I googled and found my own answer.

I found a picture of a Limited and I see that the side of the power deploying running board is painted the Expy color.

Looks nice...I think I'll get this option.

Matt, my understanding is the Expy assembly plant is moving to Kentucky and production won't start back up until around April.

Are you ordering yours and when do they say you'll get it?

Thank you for the feedback.

I purchased a white 4x4 limited with the power deployable running boards.

I agree on the "neat" factor.

I am going to explore some to see if there is a way to "de-active" them from opening and closing from the driver's door opening. Maybe find a way to temporarily disconnect the sensor from the drivers door, or find a way with a remote start system to control the boards?

I personally prefer not having running boards because I drag my calves across them and it is easier to get in and out without them. However, they are useful for passengers. Maybe I will get the best of both with these power deployable boards.

The car does look nice when they are up.

As a sidenote, it is interesting how little inventory is out here. I live in southern Nevada and wanted a white 4x4. I preferred a 2009. There was one 2008 available around the time I started looking a few weeks ago, and it was dealer traded away. There were none in SoCal, none in Arizona, and I found one in Colorado, one in Elko NV, and one in New Mexico. The one in Colorado had the power deployable running boards and nav so I went with that. A plane flight and 12 hour drive is a long way to go for a car. None of the dealers here wanted to dealer trade for it because they said there is no money in it with the employee pricing.

Congratulations ddlv!

How is the White Platinum Tri-Coat? I have seen the Limited white on Navigators, Aviators, and F-150s before but I think it was called something different before (White Chocolate Tri-Coat I think?).

Is it still a pearl white (you see a pearl effect in bright light)?

Thanks and enjoy your new Expy.

Ddlv, did you find yours at GwS?

They gave me the run-around too and I got a good deal up at a NW US dealer.

I purchased one from them in 2001 and was disappointed a few weeks ago w/ them.

They knew about the one in the NW I wound up buying and kept jacking the price up on it to bring it in. So they lost the sale. Bought it direct.

Had some problems with the out of state title xfer tho.
