Dont mean to kinda intrude as far as my own personally news but its so good i had to. I just bout 2 hours ago went with my friend to woodbury, Tn just down the road from where i live. We found a '48 Ford F1 sitting in a barn on a property that had been condemed. it had been condemed for bout 10 years. So we took it. its sitting at my friends house right now. Oh and also ive decided im going to Nashville Auto Diesel College right here in Nashville!!!!! As long as im accepted ill be good. dont see a reason why i wouldnt. This week has been good.

i asked a cop bout this. he said if i make and effort to find the owner and am not able to find the previous owner. say due to a death or something. I would turn in for a salvaged title or something along those lines. My friend knows the family that used to live there. but he's not sure were they went. when the house was condemed the family moved away to somewhere not in the same city. after i left his house he went to the city library to try to find some records of the land owner. But if the previoius owner somehow comes along and wants it back we have to give it up or else it would be theft. Chances of that are slim.

If you can get the title legally, you should be fine. This is the way it worked for me one time.

I wanted to buy a 57 chevy that a guy at a old shop had in the back. He didn't have a title for it, and no money would exchange hands till I had one. This is when I was younger, and my Dad helped me out. He went to the DMV and they found out the last time the car was titled was in 1965, this was 1985. Since the guy had a garage, he put what is called a "mechanics lean" on the car. The DMV sent a registered letter to the last previous owner of the car, and they have so many days to respond. Luckily they did not respond in time, and lucky for me the guy was honest that was selling me the car, since the previous owner did show up, and offered more for the car than I had, but it was too late, he didn't respond in time to the DMV, and the garage guy said it was already sold. I got the car with a clear title in my name.

As far as the DMV in Tenn is concerned, they should have record on who owns that truck.

Hmmm...so far you've committed 1.Trespassing(entering onto the property). 2.Burglary(Entering a building without the owner's consent). 3. Theft(removing and taking possession of another's property).

Your buddy is now in possession of stolen property, as it is on HIS property.

You really should take it back ASAP or it just MIGHT be the most expensive truck you've ever purchased.

Man, if the owner is typical of most "pack rat" types he's just "waiting to restore that VERY valuable antique".

With all respect, find out through the county tax records who the owner of the property is, send them a letter or pay them a visit and buy it from them legally.

I also believe a "salvage title" vehicle cannot be re-registered as is, I think it can only be used for parts on a legally titled vehicle.

In any event good luck.

Check your local laws. You may just have to post an ad in the local newspaper asking for anyone that knows anything about it for a certain period of time.

There are also lots of companies down south that can get you a title for $200-300 bucks.

I would do the right thing first and try and contact the original owner. The DMV should be able to provide you with the info by running the VIN.

SUYT!

Now that is huge news. Are you going to keep it original, or update it? I had a 53 f100, and I put a 351 cleveland with a c4 automatic in it. Updated it to 12 volts, and took a couple of leaves out of the front springs(the spring thing didn't work very well by the way).

There are 2 options were thinking of. Here they are

1. Keep it original with the 239 Flathead V8. after rebuilding it.
2. Josh (my friend) has 2 motors waiting to be dropped into something. One is a 302 with a C4. The other is a 351 Windsor with a c6. and a 9" rear with 4.11 gears.

I'm wanting to go with the original.

The flathead would be neat to keep in it, but I found out that's a whole different world of learning and reading to get up to speed on how to rebuild and maintain that old engine.

There is plenty of info and other boards about flatheads on the web, but you need to be commited to learning all you can about that engine, and also you might have to school your local machine shop of what they need to do if they are not familiar with that engine.
