Question for Randy Jack

Randy,
I trying to make a bed cover very similiar to your except my hindges are different and the bed is about 1 1/2" above the bed edge making the bottom sit on top of the tailgate. Pepboys said they no longer make the gas shocks you used so I got #SG126003 they are longer than I wanted however, they can still work. My problem is they are extremely hard to compress were yours like that also, is there a way to make them softer?
Thanks in advance.

Jaye -

As I recall, the gas shocks were difficult to compress freehand. But there is a lot of leverage once they are installed, so they work much easier. My bet is that the ones you bought will work fine. Just make sure you mock up the frame, shocks and shock mounting on the bed so you get the geometry right.

Good luck.
