My door mouldings have lost a lot of paint and I would like to remove them to spray them without breaking the clips. I just had the inside door panel off and they are not bolted through the door so I figure that there has to be a removal technique from the exterior. Thanks for all info concerning my problem.

 

yep just get a heat gun and peel the molding off slowly but be careful if you get it to hot it will bubble the paint i have heard.

 

So I guess the moldings are glued on. Anyone out there found a solvent (or other method besides a heat gun) which will soften the glue without damaging the paint?

 

The body side moldings are held on by double sided molding tape. They can be removed with fishing line and/or a plastic bondo applicator. Any excess tape left on the paint can be easily removed with a 3M Stripe Off Wheel (see link below) with no damage to the paint...
