my '02 s'crew, 2wd, with the 4.6L pulled 3500# often. wasn't a rocket as mentioned, but it did the job. towing in a headwind, the worst mileage i ever seen was 15mpg... it was a flatdeck trailer with quads aboard, not an enclosed parachute.
