advancing timing in 5.4L 3v 07 expedition

I recently got a programmer and it allows you to advance the timing, what are the benefits and problems associated with doing this?

far as i know, advancing the timing opens a little more power and efficiency... i have that ability with my SCT Xcal3, but i haven't tried it yet. if you do it, make sure to only go a couple degrees at a time and if you hear detonation or spark knock, back it off a tad!!!

i bought from mike @ 5star tuning, a FTE sponsor. the X3 comes pre loaded with 3 tunes, i chose 87-economy, towing, and performance. after driving a while with it in performance, i flashed it back to stock for the dealer's oil change and man, its like driving a totally different truck. i've only had it for about 3 weeks and haven't had much time to play with it yet... i like it so far though.

which tuner did you purchase??

Mine ran best with the 93 octane tune(Predator). I got no benefit from adding more advance. Also got almost 2mpg better.
