Steve

Hi, as a new member I look forward to joining the community. As mentioned in my profile, I do not currently own a Ford diesel within the next 6 months. I believe my new diesel will be a F350 DRW. I have test drove 1 tons from Ford, Dodge, and Chevy/GMC and plan to buy the Ford. All of the research I have done is very complimentary of the new 6.7 liter diesel. Any feedback or thoughts regarding my upcoming purchase will sure be appreciated. Also, not sure if I will modify the truck or not, but any insights on what would make it pull better (power) and be more efficient (MPG).

I have just joined. I have had Ford trucks for over 30 years. Current truck is a:
  • 2008 F250 SuperDuty
  • 6.4L Dual Turbocharged Diesel
  • Lariat 4x4

I ordered this truck so I got to put what I wanted on it. This truck has every possible extra except for the Snow Plow Attachment, Rear Seat Entertainment, Backup Camera and Tailgate Step. (I regret the Backup camera and Tailgate step).

I have 118,700 miles on it and the only thing I have done to the vehicle is put new tires on it. It even has the original brakes. I got 60k each from two sets of Goodyear Wrangler A/T tires.

Yes most of my driving is on the freeway. I have a 16ft car haul trailer that I have used to haul just about everything. Pulled 15K lb of wood from central California to Eastern Washington. Averaged just over 1mpg drop when the trailer was loaded.

My truck is not chipped but as soon as the 120k warrenty expires, it will be the first thing to be done.

Talking Back in a Ford

I am a new user and have just purchased a Ford. My last Ford was a 1995Thunderbird and I still miss that car. My current Ford is a bit different but it is a;

2006 Ford F-350 Super Duty
King Ranch
6.0L Diesel

I like the truck but it has issues. I am looking forward to getting some advise and some ideas for this truck.

Hi Bob. I'm Paul52 and have a 1952 Ford F-1 pickup that I am rebuilding from the frame up. I am in the process of doing a lot of major body work and swapping in a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria front suspension. I am also looking for a ford 9" rear end to install. The engine is a 351 ci Cleveland that I just had completely rebuilt. I will have to figure out how to put photos on this site. I am poor with computers so I will have to spend some time to figure out how to correspond better with others on this site. Best of luck with your 1948 and I look forward to seeing your photos in the future. Cheers Paul52

Nice to have a place to go to for 6.0 problems... At 60 years old I'm still young at hear! My truck works hard, tows a 7000 # fishing boat with a 2500 # camper, in the summer, fall and winter it the fishing boat is replaced by a 16' wells cargo trailer with a jeep in it for bow hunting season. Great to talk with you all

Howdy

Hello Ford folks! My name is Chuck Haas and I currently own 2 ford trucks:
"Ortley" is a 1963 F100, long bed, stepside, 4x4 beast of a farm truck. (292)
"Redford" is a 1968 restored F100, long bed, fleet side, 3 on the tree, vintage driver. (240)
Excited to be a part of a 24/7 Ford info resource. Hope to contribute as well.

Trucks of my past and a basic comparison

Having just purchase a 1953 Ford F-250, I got to thinking about past trucks I have had and thought I would post a couple of comments.

In 1970, I purchased a 1950 Dodge 1/2 ton pickup. I remember it being problematic and in constant need of mechanical tuning. However, it was in pretty good condition and I enjoyed working on it. It was fun to drive and a classic in itself. Pretty good shape too. Can't help but wonder what happened to it! Ha.

The other truck I really enjoyed having was a 1953 IH Long Bed. I can honestly say, at this point in time, that I wish I would have kept it. I got it from my sister, who bought it while living in the north-woods of Wisconsin. She gave it to me when I moved from Illinois to the north-woods of Wisconsin in the early 70's! I got it in 1975.

The truck was practically rust free although, fairly faded. It was all original and the interior was in great shape. Always started and ran good and I used it regularly. When I moved back to Illinois i gave it to a friend. I haven't been up north in decades and wonder if he still has it. It's probably sitting out in his field.. Would have been great to restore or currently, a good candidate for a "rat rod".

I started out with my recent search looking for a truck to build a rat rod but, found the F-250 I just bought. I won't be building a rat rod out of it though, as it is too pristine in its original condition. Rather, I will work towards resolving the few blemishes it has, to restore it to the way it came from the factory. I even have the original side boards for the bed! I believe I am the fourth owner. It has been in a rental storage unit for the last ten+ years! Just a beautiful example!

This will be a fun project and I look forward to comments and help from any members on this site who wish to assist me towards that goal.

Glad I joined this community!

Sparkdog
