NEW MEMBER Introduction Thread (NO TECH QUESTIONS)
Hello we are the proud owners of a 2001 FORD Excursion Limited edition with a V10 and a super chip. We bought it 2 1/2 years ago. It's been my, Coral the wife, dream truck. I have updated the tires to 285 / 75 / 16. Looks a bit better. We use it as a family vehicle but I will be removing the tan trim and having it painted all black. No chrome just black. Running lights on top and a huge push bumper guard. A wench and a 4 inch lift kit. Bigger tires too of course.
Only issue we have is idiots rear ending us in parking lots even when parking in the very back and taking up 2 spaces. Anyone else have this issue? Gonna have to replace my rear bumper and use a more heavy duty one. Anyway we are excited to be here! Lol
Thanks Coral, Ernie's wife :-)

your excursion!
I became the proud owner of a 2003 Mono Black v10 Excursion Limited a few months ago.
She has 99,XXX miles and came with brand new 285 Dayton Timberline II tires.
Since I've owned her, I've done:
-Wagner E-coat rotors, calipers and ceramic pads all around (several calipers were sticky)
-Plugs, boots and springs (torqued to 25 FtLbs with anti-sieze - the ones I took out looked original and the electrodes all looked the same but the drivers' side were all barely finger tight. Used a piece of fuel line on a shop vac to clean out the holes)
-Rancho 9000 shocks (no boots, set on "3" all the way around)
-Front sway bar links
-Oil change using NAPA (valvoline?) 5w20 synthetic and MC oil filter
-Took apart rear hatch and lubricated lock mechanism with fluid film (was not operational)
-Disassembled passengers side body mount, ground off 1/4" on the hex tube and reassembled (improved but did not eliminate the "creak" when stopping/pulling away
-Replaced PCV valve with non-heated version and zip tied the heated one out of the way rather than messing with the lines (was using a quart every 800 miles or so - no smoke if you take the oil cap off and goose the throttle, so doesn't seem to be blowby related and no exhaust smoke - too early to tell whether this improved the issue
She's a northeast truck, so there's some rust on the underbody, frame and doors under the weatherstripping. Virtually no dents or dings, paint is in great shape, no rust showing on body or rockers yet and nothing's rusted through underneath but I need to do something to "freeze it in time"
Next steps:
-Figure out how to get to the top of the hex tube in the passengers side body mount to grind that down too
-Paint underbody with Chassis Saver (I have a 60 gallon compressor, need to get spray equipment, masking supplies and a few free days to hate my life)
-Figure out why the engine has an intermittent tick from the passenger's side front valvetrain that is only audible when it's hot and been driven for awhile (you can always hear it to some degree by putting a screwdriver on the head near the injector to your ear)
-replace the leather on the drivers' side arm rest and have the seam on the door side of the drivers' seat re-stitched
-Fix the cruise control (I think there is a recall for this...there is a sensor on the brake m/c that is wet from brake fluid that I believe to be related)
-Install a double DIN head unit
-Fix the rear a/c - no temperature adjustment - suspect the blend door but haven't torn into it yet. Maybe after the head unit install since that'll be an excuse to run some wire back there for an amp/sub...
I think from reading around here that the first step for the intermittent "Tick" and the oil consumption is to use Motorcraft 5w30 at the next oil change and see what happens. If that and the new PCV valve doesn't fix both, I'll be posting some questions...
I wanted to say a "thanks" to you guys/girls as I've been lurking around for info on the projects already completed. This forum has been an awesome indispensable resource and I've put off joining for too long already.

Current garage:
The excursion (newest member)
1990 Suburban SLT 2WD - 165k miles, full service history, no rust, all original, silver/red, square body style, awesome patina, everything works (excursion was supposed to replace this but I'm too attached - if the engine ever dies it'll get something BAD in it (like a 502, a stroked 383 or a cummins 6BT)
1994 S10 Blazer 4 Door H/O CPI 4.3 - 54k miles, good paint, rusty but solid underneath (this was supposed to be my nephew's first car, but he's too prissy for it - I will be selling this soon)
2001 Saab 9-5 Wagon - 88k miles (daily driver)
2004 Mercedes S500 - 90k miles (wife's daily driver)
1990 Larson Hampton 220 - 5.0 2 barrel Mercruiser, Alpha 1 drive, 450 original hours, more work and less use than all the others combined, totally worth it, (towed by the Suburban when she's not on her mooring), all original interior, great condition
Yuneec E-Go electric skateboard (always in the back of the car)
1990's Ingersoll 3016 tractor with 48" deck and snowcaster, 16 HP Briggs Vanguard, 502 hours
Gone but not forgotten:
1993 Accord LX 5 speed - first car, if I hadn't sold it like an idiot I'd probably still have it
1990 Firebird Formula 5.0 - 190 HP V8, automatic trans, fire engine red, T-Tops, looked fast but the Accord was probably faster
1993 Camaro Z28 LT1/6spd - awesome car, custom stereo, MagnaFlow cat back, K&N, T-Tops, black, couldn't stop crashing it
1988 Chevy Nova - drove this in college when the Z28 was broken - no headliner and started via underhood button. Ate it's head gasket with 250k miles - I owned it for 40k miles and my buddy and I delivered pizzas for 2 years with it.
1988 Jeep Cherokee Limited 4.0 - only had for a few months, not a good one
1990 Jeep Wrangler 2.5 5 speed - 4" lift, 31" tires, california car, rust free all original sand colored paint, soft top, half doors, drove it here with 3 buddies in 5 days, traded it for the Suburban plus 4k cash, worse gas mileage than the X
2000 Honda Accord EX 4cyl auto - what a PIECE OF JUNK - slow as a dog, squeaks, rattles, burned oil, "ticky" engine, terrible handling, constant brake system issues, terrible paint, flimsy interior, no comparison to the 1993 I had previously, will never own another Honda.
2003 Saab 9-5 Aero 5 speed auto - incredibly fast, fun car - wife's previous d/d, needed way too much work to be worth it with 160k miles. Last straw was the seat heater burning a hole in the seat and my wife's winter coat.
1999 Saab 9-5 5 speed auto - previous d/d - 235k miles (sidelined due to incredible deal on wagon above and nearly gone clutch, being cannibalized for parts then eventually hauled off to the scrap yard)
1995 Camry - wife's before the Saab - 300k+ miles, someone's probably still driving it, tons of oil sludge but didn't kill it while I knew it.
2003 John Deere L120 - very pretty but not heavy duty enough for my yard (too many steep inclines etc) nor could it move cars or the boat trailer around the driveway. Sold and replaced with the Ingersoll, which is the same size and can move the trailer with the boat on it.
1998 Suzuki Katana 750 - black, bought for 1200, put 2k miles on it and sold for 3200 when I bought my first house.
2009 Moto Guzzi Griso 8v - white - an incredible joy to ride, awesome engine sound, the newest and most unreliable vehicle I've ever owned - always leaking oil from somewhere. Put 5k miles on it and sold back to the dealer I got it from at a huge loss when I flipped my first house and bought my second.
2002 GP1200r - sold to my brother in law at the same time I sold the Guzzi, many mods, rebuilt engine, very fast, incredible holeshot, way too loud, not used once I got the boat.
I also work on various friends' vehicles including:
1973 Mako 23 with 1991 Evinrude Intruder
2003 Saab 9-5
2007 Mini Cooper S

Hi! I have the same oil issue with my Excursion. Only top I can give is no high mileage or synthetic oil. Motorcraft 5w30 is the best to use during winter. It's ok to go a bit heavier in summer depending on how hot it gets. Did you change your own plugs? Hubby's gotta do ours but is Leary of it. Lol gotta get a chair to reach the top. Lol I've got 285s on mine too.
New Guy with a 94 F150
1994 F150 XLT . 4x2 , 5.0 automatic / 140,000 miles
Hello everyone. Only been here about a week and really like what im seeing. A lot of great trucks and tons of help. I have a 1994 F150XLT extra cab. The body is straight and runs pretty good. But want to do a complete rebuild starting with the mechanics of it, and work my way out. Want to give it a lift of sorts. Not much, just level it out some, does this hurt it any, or will it affect the ride much. Oh it is a 4x2 also , just like the looks of how some of yours look. wont be any off roading , just pulling my boat and back and fourth to the deer camp. Look forward to your help in my new project.
I've had my 2011 F-250 for a month now, so still a newb. Bought it with 190K miles. Truck was used by an explosives company, manager drove it around OK and TX to construction sites. Suspension needs updating, so I'm putting in Bilstein 5100 all around and a add-a-leaf. Going to lift fron 2.5" and get some black 18" wheels and 35" tires next year.
It's my 3rd vehicle, so sits most of the time. It's main duty is to haul our new TT.

I'm new to this forum
I do belong to another board for my Pontiac Solstice. I finally took the risk and replaced my Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Ford F350 diesel. I've been wanting too get a truck for sometime. Possibly to move from driving a semi to a hot shot, we'll see what happens. Yea drove for 18 years but spent 6 months in the hospital for a multiple accident. It still has some issues to deal with but its mine for now.
Introduction
Hello everyone,
I'm John. I live in Ca. I'm 26. I was given a 1968 f250 with a 390. It's old and beat up but I enjoy fixing it up. I've worked on just about everything, Cars, trucks, SUV, Rv's, Semi, forklift, etc etc. but I don't know everything and that's why I am here. lol

Hey all,
total newb here :P
been rolling around in a 1994 IDI turbo diesel since about '06 which i affectionately call "Lydia". Got her with about 126k miles and just crossed over to 169k...
never thought i would own a Ford, but have totally fallen in love with it and hope to keep her running until there's no more diesel. originally got the truck to use on our small market farm, but the ex got the land and i got the truck. we were gonna convert it to run on waste vegetable oil from restaurants, but soon found out that the "local" bio-fuel company had pretty much taken stock of all the good sources... ce la vee, eh?
well, that's my beginning

Just purchased a 66 F250 Camper Special Custom Cab long bed. 352, 4 spd. Looking to put a 460 possibly C6. Want to install a side tank and rear tank and remove cab tank. Like to know does the 73 side tank fits the 66 body? This truck at one time had saddle tanks which have been removed. This truck is going to pull my FIA 289 Cobra replica I am build for open track for Sonoma Raceway/ Laguna Seca/ Thunder Hill..... Looking to build a good low end torque motor.... If there are any good recomendations like to hear them. New to building old trucks. Last truck was a 95 F250 460. My experience is in building Vintage Mustangs for open track.... Thanks again and looking forward to this build..
