Question Can it take it?

I have a 460 in my Bronco, all stock motor and 4bbl. I am still running stock 3.54:1 gears on 37 inch tires till I swap for 1 tons this winter. And wanting a little more horse power. I have 1 last mud bog this weekend and I was wondering,,

I want to pull an extra little umph from the motor and thought about running some 110 octane in it.I have 3 gallons, and have about a gallon of 94 pump gas left in the tank. Will the stock motor handle it alright?
What kind of power gains do you think it will produce?

with a stock motor you will probably loose power. The higher the octain the slower the burn.

when i first started racing the truck it had a stock 460. I ran 15.00 flat with 91 octane and 15.20's with 110.

If you don't have enough compression to require that much octane, It will hurt you. If you are borderline on compression to run regular gas it will probably help. mwvdub's claim is contrary to everything I've seen in over 40 years of playing with engines and racing.

I'm being dyslexic tonight. You are right and agree with his finding. I tried running some 115/145 AV gas in my 428CJ and it hurt big time.

I put some 110 in an old race car i had.... I always ran 89 octane in it and ran 12.90's. I ran 13.30's with the 110.... it came out very quickly, filled it back up with 89 and i went right back to 12.90's.

The way i look at it, is that higher octane fuels allow for more power to be built and used, higher octane is not a 'power booster'.

Have you guys tried any of the super-oxygenated fuels? I ran some VP U4.2 in my dirtbike and it was very noticeable, I've heard it's worth 3-5 hp on a 50 hp 450cc 4 stroke single motocross bike. If it made the same % improvement on a 500 hp 460 that would be 30-50 hp. Check out the "street blaze 100" at the top of this page. Some very impressive claims.

VP RACING FUELS- UNLEADED FUELS

Only bad part is paying for the stuff, the U4.2 I tried is about $11 a gallon..
