I am still at a loss....

I put the spring/strut assembly into place (with the lift installed).
I loosely attached the upper three nuts.
Then when I tried to jack up the lower control arm, the whole freakin truck goes up! NO play or no give on the spring itself.
I have a 2005 FX4, and I am thinking is the springs just that stiff?

I called up Hellbent Steel and they said it may be a CV joint sticking, but I can assure you that it is not.

Is it possible to get an outside spring compressor just to give me some compression of the spring?
The spring is simply not moving at all, when I jack up the lower control arm.

I used a ratchet strap to pull the upper and lower control arms closer together.

sounds like you have something installed funky. my truck started to lift up also when I was compressing the spring, but only because I had metal-metal contact and didn't notice.

sounds like a ratchet strap is your best bet. hope it works for you

Tylus,
I checked and double checked EVERYTHING??

I got to the point on the passenger side where I have installed the top lift block on the strut,
And when I try to get the lower control arm up it actually lifts the whole truck up, cause of the spring being to stiff.

Do you think I could get a spring compressor on the spring itself?
Like one of those rent a craps, from autozone?

Truck was due for a service at Ford dealership, but had to miss my appointment, truck is still not done, and had to totally button everything back up, to get the truck back on the road.
(still no lift on it yet).

PS. what metal-metal contact where you refering to, that you had?

I never had a problem with mine. I put the autospring 2.5" kit in and everything went together smooth. Your spring shouldn't be that stiff. Were you jacking right on the lower ball joint?

I was actually jacking up the lower control arm about 2 inches from the actual ball joint.
I didn't want to put the floor jack right on any threads or anything under there.

Is that the problem maybe?

most likely. it's all about the physics of the force applied. try jacking it on the outermost edge.

there is enough metal out there that it's safe to do so. you aren't placing the vehicle weight on it anyways, just a little pressure

Should I give it a go again?
Or should I not?

I mean also, it seems as if the whole spring/strut assembly wants to buckle outwards from the middle of the spring, which probably isn't a good thing.

Would this be taken care of, once it gets an alignment?
Hellbent Steel says that the only correction would be made to the TOE of the alignment.

again, I think you've got something out of whack.

the coil-over pretty much just slips into place. then you jack the lower control arm up some until the spindle can bolt to the upper control arm.

nothing should be binding or looking like it wants to buckle.

do you have pictures?

NOTE: Because of the shape of the Hell Bent Steel spacer
the strut will be rotated 180° when reinstalled.
did that happen to when u installed it?

I'm assuming this is a warning that was on the Hell Bent install instructions?

to OP: are you sure you have the top section fully seated into it's perch. Those 3 bolts aren't equally spaced. they are offset from each other. This means the coil-over can only install 1 way.
