Fifth wheel hitch

I am looking at fifth wheel hitches and I've got some questions. I will only be towing a camper about 5 or 6 times a year and I would like to have a hitch that can be removed from the bed fairly easily. Most of the year, I would like my bed clear to haul things like plywood and such. So far, I've looked at the B&W turnoverball with the companion hitch and a similar unit made by Colibert. Does anyone have opinions on either of these hitches, or are there other hitches out there that are easily removable.

B&W all the way. Easy in and out and when it is out there is nothing in the way.

I second that. B&W can be installed and removed by one person with ease.

The B&W turnoverball with the companion hitch is a very nice unit. As long as you do not need a slider and have a LWB or Longbed SD...you should be good to go.

A better setup if you have a Shortbed would be in order...IMO.

Good luck...

hitch

Thanks for all of your responses. I have a 6 3/4 ft. bed, but the fifth wheel trailer that I am looking real hard at has an extended pin box. I thought that with the companion hitch setup in its rear most position that I should be alright. If I am wrong about that, please don't hesitate to let me know. If I need a slider instead, I need to know now.

As good as I like the B&W hitch, With your truck being a short bed I would suggest you get a slider. If you Put the B&W in its rearmost position the pin is going to behind your axle, not good for extended towing.

Hitch

If I do require a slider, has anyone had any experience with the "Rail Rider" from Colibert?

Unhappy

I have an '06 F250 SD with the short bed. I pull a 30' fifth-wheel. It was recommended that I buy a "slider". So, I spent the extra dollars and got a Hitchhiker (brand). It's a great pivoting hitch, but in two years I have yet to use the sliding function.

I guess like the ole' saying. "It's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it"

For a slider...I recommend the PullRite (see link). Since you want one that does not leave rails in the bed when removed...go with the 24k SuperGlide Part #3600-3513.

PullRite has a SAFER, STRONGER, BETTER designed hitch for you

Good luck...
