6.0 Diesel MPG via GPS/RPM
Curios if anyone has based MPG on highway RPM over a distance calculated by a GPS? Since most trucks like my own reads 62 MPH when GPS shows 60.
I am taking a 1900 mile trip from Texas to MA in December and want to try and get the best MPG out of it. I plan on testing it out myself to see where I would get the best MPG via LIO-meter over a 100 mile stretch after getting to speed and resetting, but has anyone else tried this?
Anyone know what RPM at highway speeds would get the best MPG, I would assume 65-75 MPH is what I would be doing most of the way, I think that would be about 1800-2200 RPM?
I plan on doing a hand calculation later when filling up. Just got the truck and getting about 14.8 to 15.1 hand calculating city driving, haven't had a chance to do a lot of highway driving so I can not put a number on it.
I figure 2.5 tanks and I should be there if I can get 20 MPG.
We will see...
Any thoughts or suggestions would help, trying to get a head start on this.

well here is the update
In My 6.0 Excursion I took a trip to MA from TEXAS last week and filled up according to gas buddy trip calculator to get the cheapest diesel for the trip.
3 fill ups with the following going under the 2k RPM mainly 65-70 GPS speed
1. 510.5 miles put in 26.445 gallons for a 19.3 MPG L-O-M showed 19.7
2. 626.7 miles put in 32.438 gallons for 19.31 MPG L-O-M showed 19.8
3. 428.2 miles piut in 21.233 gallons for 20.17 MPG L-O-M showed 20.6
loaded up with 3 kids, a wife, a dog and crate with 7 bags in truck and 4 bags in swing away cargo trailer hitch
so fully loaded down
will be heading back in the next couple days have not filled up for the trip back, but it has been cold lately and I have been iddling it a lot in the mornings to warm up for around town trips so I know the next fill up will be around 14-15 MPG
will update with return trip info if anyone cares
