Wheel Question

My King Ranch came stock with 18 inch rims. Can I go down to 17 inch rims without it hitting the caliper or is my only option to go up in size. Thanks.

Depends on the wheel. Brother in law tried to put 17's on his and it would not fit. I would definitely not buy something on Craigslist without trying to fit them first.

Like you I also have an F350, except mine is an XL and came with 17 inch wheels. I now have 18 inch Ford rims I bought on Ebay. I don't believe there is any difference in our running gear so if your using Ford rims I would say it would work just fine. Do remember smaller wheels will usually mean less payload if your hauling anything. If your going to smaller wheels to lower your truck you will not gain very much.

17's yes, buddy with a dodge has 17's and his payload is smaller then my dads ford with the 18's, but my ford has the 16's and my tires are rated for more then the tires for 17's. i have ford 20's waiting for me to get some rubber on them and the tires i've found have the same ratings as my 16's

Question

Is the 275 tire fitted to the 20inch factory rim taller than the 275 tire fitted to the factory 18". I ask as the 18" has an aspect ratio of 70 while the 20 incher manages to drop to just 65 still making it excellent for off roading

The 18 inch tire actually measures about 32.6 inches tall and the 20 inch tire measures about 34.1 inches tall.

that does not make sense. an 18" tire would measure 18" and a 20" tire would measure 20". What tire are you comparing on these rim sizes? Are they the same tire? I know that my 18" rim with 37" tires measured the exact same height as the 20" rim with the same manufactured 37" tire.

And Caprang, just yanking your chain a little.. L

Many vehicles will accept smaller wheels than OE, as long as the back of the wheel is designed to clear the calipers. We regurally test and list smaller wheels for snow use.

You can see here:
Snow Tires - Find the best Winter Tires at Tire Rack

Anything we list is tested and guaranteed to fit. Call me if I can assist...

Only fact I know is that F-350, 2005 thru 2008 dual wheel trucks come with 17" rubber; whereas, single axle F-350's come with 18" rubber. For variations, on new, you can check the Ford spec. sheets, available on line. The dual wheel configuration does give a higher GVWR.
