F-150 99 4.2L Automatic Rear seal problem

I went on a trip approx. 400 miles somewhere along the way my rear seal backed out and all my transmission fluid came out. Now I only have low and 2nd gears. After checking around this is a common problem with this truck. I found several TSB reports that state continuos high speeds for long distances can cause rear seal to back out. I have no warranty the truck has 57000+ right now.

Called Ford and reported the problem. No help.

I would like to know what it takes to get a recall for this problem if anyone knows. Damages so far are about 1300 dollars.

Thanks

Is it a bad vent design? Did yours clog up? If so, how do I inspect mine (same eng/trans).

I do not know if it was clogged at this time.

According to the TSB reports from Ford this only happens at high speeds for long continous driving if I read it correctly. I was doing 75 to 80 mph from Sacramento area to L.A. Approx 380 miles stopped 1 time at the top of the grapevine and filled up the truck no problems at that time.

What happens is the rear seal actually spins or backs out of the transmission when I looked under the truck to check it was just sliding back and forth on the drive shaft.

I put the seal back in and all is ok other then the fact I do not have drive or overdrive at this time. Napa autoparts wants 250.00 for the master kit to replace the cluthes and other parts related to it or 130.00 for a rebuild kit with just overdrive and drive cluthes.

So for now I drive around town in 2nd gear only.

If you are under warranty still take it in and have them check it out or see if there is a fix for the problem I would be interested in knowing what they say when you are still in warranty because right now they are no help at all with mine.

If you would like to check out the TSB on this I will go back and locate them again if you would like to read them.

Hope all goes well with your truck.

Below is the web site with one of the TSB reports. There are others similar to this one you can check them out and take them to your ford dealer before you go on your trip.

Any information they give you as far as repairs or what they are willing to do would be much appreciated. Thanks
