1997 aerostar, #1 fuse blowing

when I shift out of P, it blows the #1 fuse (15A). It is a shift lock problem, but I can't find any other info like where the solenoid (?) is located, any suggestions.

The shift lock actuator is located on the lower part of the steering column.

Fuse F1 protects the brake lamp circuit. Is it blowing when the brakes are applied to make the shift (that's when the interlock is actually activated) or when the shifter moves out of PARK into REVERSE?

Try starting in N and see when it blows.

Quite honestly, I just don't see it being the interlock itself, I'd suspect its a short on the brake lamp circuit which is quite extensive on this vehicle.

short

I gotta believe it is a short as well. Sounds like something best left to a pro. My experience with wiring is limited.
