HP Wars, Dodge Beats Toyota

Motortrend has the RAM R/T, with 4:10 gears and 20" wheels, clocked at a 14.4 in the Quarter.
The biggest issue with the RAM is the transmissions, the 1st to 2nd gap is simply to large. 1st Gear is 3.00:1, while 2nd is 1.67:1. Downshifting during passing is even worse, you get stuck with a 1.5:1 2nd gear ratio. That 1st to 2nd shift drops the engine right out of peak-rpm range and actually dumps it below the peak torque RPM. Take a look over at the Dodge forums, at the "Ram Challenge" evens people say the trucks equipped with 3.92:1 gears and 18" wheels felt much more responsive then the ones that had 3.21/3.55s and 20" wheels.
Also, you are never going to see a stock F-150 get under 6 seconds 0-60. Even with the F-150s supposed 3.40:1 rear axle ratio(which it doesn't have), the over all ratio in 1st gear is 14.178:1, and it is STILL the slowest truck out of the bunch. (The RAM by comparison has a 10.56:1 over all 1st gear ratio, and the Tundra has a 14.33:1 overall 1st gear ratio)

I didn't overlook anything, the 09 Ram is an under-performer just as I predicted it would be back in September.
The already 200 lb. heavier Tundra with 1,000 lbs. in the bed outran the EMPTY Ram.
It would be interesting to see what a short wheelbase, reg cab 5.4 2009 F150 with 4.10s would do 0-60. I bet it would be under 6.0 seconds as well.

Also, a 2009 F150 RCSB 2WD with the 6-speed auto and 4.10 gears would be flirting with 6.0 second 0-60 times. I find it odd that you think the 09 Ram R/T is the only truck that will respond favorably to shorter gearing and a lower curb weight. Newsflash: SO WILL THE F150.

The 390 HP Ram and 310 HP F150 run within 3 tenths of each other in the 1/4 mile (and 3.X mph), somehow the 200 LB. heavier 381 HP Tundra and the 317 HP Titan both manage to outrun the 09 Ram. The Tundra spanks the Ram by almost 1 second in the 1/4, and even outruns the Ram with 1,000 lbs in the bed (a 1,200 lb. weight penalty vs. the empty Ram). The Ram is an underperformer given it's manufacturer's HP rating, which is all I've ever maintained.

Coming from a long time Mustang guy, that has used suspension and gears to outrun cars that had over 150 rwhp more, the Ram with 4.10 gear will still get raped by a Tundra with 4.30s. End of story.
