I will be honest I haven't done much searching to get the answer on this site but is the front and back fuel tanks the same for both the diesel and gas? Is the only difference the fuel pickup on the diesel? I am starting to see a little wet spot below the rear frame corner of the front fuel tank, so I am suspecting the leak is coming from around the seam next to the frame. I did do a little searching and found this information.

There were problems way back with galvanized fuel tanks...... diesel will eat galvanizing and deposit it in the injectors. Newer tanks are nickel plated so no worries there.....

New steel tanks, even plastic can be purchased inexpensive........ I would go new for the price.

 

When my tank started to leak I found a 94 f150 in the junkyard. Payed 40 bucks for a tank that looked close to new and it had over half a tank of gas in it. Took it home, emptied the gasout, washed it with diesel, and put it into the truck. Worked great and no more leaks.
