Anyone know where the DPFE sensor is on my 1997 Explorer 5.0? It is NOT where the Mitchell and Chilton manuals say, and the Ford dealer will NOT tell me, just to "bring it on in"!

This is the second one in 80K miles, first one under warranty at 40K, the next at 78K.

Its the Delta Pressure Sensor, used to determine the exhaust back pressure when actuating the EGR valve. Fords have a nasty habit of frequent failure. We have two Explorers, a 1995 4.0 (failed three times in 150K miles, and a 1997 5.0, twice already, once under warranty.

I own a 97 Explorer Eddie Bauer with the 5.0L V-8(48K miles). I've put more $$$ in this damb thing(repairs)in the one year i've owned it than my 90 Ranger 4x4 4.0L(89K miles)i've had since new. I'm selling it next month. Anyone want a Eddie Bauer Explorer?

1)heater box failure(Blend door) $760.00
2)alternator. $90.00
3)broken seat(reclining bracket broke). $125.00
4)suspension leans to one side(very noticable). not fixing it.

I hope you have good luck with yours!

Sorry for your problems;
The 95 has been flawless, the 4.0 gives us 20 mpg highway, 16 city, has not had one breakdown, still the original alt, wp, and AC system and trans, gone through 2 replacement brake systems (it has 160K miles) on its first set of tires after the Firestones were replaced pre-recall. We are fully prepared to repair/replace anything that breaks down as we are VERY satisfied with the vehicle and are way ahead of the vehicle cost per mile estimate.

My sons 97 has a similar repair record at almost 80K miles, this is the first repair needed, and just had the first set of replacement tires and brakes.
