312 w/4 barrel?

I was talking to a guy at the yard and he has a 312 with a 4 barrel intake on it. Did 312's come with 4 barrel intakes? I though most of the Y-blocks were 2 barrel. Well to make a long story short I am thinking of buying it and rebuilding it for my 64 F-100. I am getting tired of my everyday 351W. Besides it would be nice to see teh originall engine mounts used again. Also what transmissions bolt up to the Y-blocks? Thanks.

312 w/4 barrel?

The 312 in the Ford cars always had a four barrel. In fact the '57 manifold ( four barrel ) has the Holley/Autolite bolt pattern. Ford didn't use the 312 after '57, but it was used in the Mercs thru '60 I believe but with a two barrel. A word of caution: a lot of guys call every Y-block they see a 312. The trannies were Fordomatics, Cruisomatics, and any stick shift with the pre '65 small bolt pattern should bolt up to the bellhousing.

312 w/4 barrel?

I was going to get the block #'s to see what I came up with. Did ford stamp the CID inside the lifter valley like do now back then? Well now I am more hooked on building an FE motor. I think seeing the 68' Cobra made me rethink my options.
