292 Considered bad Motor?

Can someone give me some input on the 292 engine? I've got a 63 ford that has a 292 engine that needs rebuilding. The truck is a ton truck and will be used for hauling a large amount of wood being that it has a ten foot bed. However i've heard a lot of complaints about the motor as far as it not being reliable. But I've also heard the motor is a good pulling motor. Can someone help me out? If the 292 motor is bad then what can be replaced with it with out changing bellhousing? Any info is appreciated.

From Chevy owners?? Who do you think copied the
Y-block head design??

Lets see, I have over 300K miles on mine, and it's a
little soft now, but I'd call it a great engine, no,
it ain't a rev monster, but it ranks right up there
with the 300ci I6 in my book. And there aren't any
engines with the same bell housing as the Y block,
so you're stuck with changing the tranny if you go with
something else, plus you'll need different engine/tranny
mounts too. So, how fast do you wanna spend?? For a wood
hauler??

If you want reliable, stay with 292. I just puled a car on a trailer and a bed full of wood and metal to the scrap yard yesterday. The gross weight was 9600lbs and the empty truck weighs only 4000lbs. My engine is in rough shape but it pulled like a champ and never lugged or shuddered.

Sam They are notorisly known for being dirty.
Start out with being all cleaned up. You must
keep the oil clean like only going 1500 miles.
get rid of the cartridge filter and go spin on
(NAPA) kit get rid of the breather pipe and
filter and retro fit a pvc valve. Now enjoy
youre Y block.:-X12
