Take it from me, i've had alot of the tunes, and here's what i ended up with after a few years:

stock, hi idle, 60tow, 80 economy, and 140 agressive. Theres no difference between 120 and 80 for me, 80's a little stronger if anything. THe only reason you get 140 is not for all out performance, it's for the smoke factor. You CANT own a diesel and not enjoy rolling out some nice black coal every now and then.

Thanks for the info. I understand about EGTs, trans temp, and boost. I am sure something will be done with the exhaust.

Last question is how much egt's do these things take. I am sure no more than 1350-1400* for a sustained amount of time would be ok right?

O and how much boost will i be seeing, 25lbs maybe?

Thanks Adam

So the 140 hp is not to much on the stock head and bolts. I am sure the bottom end will take it but what about the top?

Tony Wildman www.totaldieselperformance.com

Custom chip & gauges. I have his economy tune (18-19 mpg highway), tow tune, heavy tow, high idle, NTWITA (race, 140). Great tuner and he does not charge for chip reburns when your mods/upgrades call for modifications.

I totally agree with bigsteve1969, exhaust, air intake & gauges are a must with any chip.

I originally bought the predator programmer for $375, after installing T Wildman's custom chip the predator did not comapare.

Daily drive tune 350 hp, 700 torque, tow tune 305 hp, 603 torque

1250 is the max on the gauge but short bursts into no mans land are OK. Just don't want to sustain the higher temps for long. The stock Turbo is good to @ 27 psi but after that the efficiency drops and the drive pressure will shorten it's life.

Also, your 2002 motor is good up to 400 hp with the PMR rods, you push her too much past that and you can blow a rod and put a window in the block. With Stock injectors, chip, stock turbo, exhaust & air intake will get you around the 300 hp mark.

You dont have to worry about EGT's at ALL if you are not towing a trailer. If you are towing one though, and have a small hill to crest that will only last a few seconds,(Less than 20 or so), you can push the EGT as high as you want... it won't hurt it. There's guys running hot like 1700+ EGT for a long time, and not hurting the engines. Its just repeated short blasts though. But, if you are going to sustain a temperature for a long time, make it less than 1300.

Have you tried another custom tuner other than DP?

I would not waste my money on a DP tuner chip because I had one! I prefer Total Diesel Performance

Or you can do the Flintstone Chip/mod.

Drill two big holes in the floorboard, one pair of sandles, and run as fast as you can..........

Don't laugh too hard, with fuel prices going crazy - we might have to resort to this......

I'd need to do that for the back row of seating as well, let the mexicans get in on the fuel savings!

Would you have to rebadge as taco powered?

Is one able to add a tuner/programmer for the truck WITHOUT changing the exhaust?
I am mainly looking for one with economy tune and otherwise run as stock. Could I do this?

When I pull, I would like to pull in "stock" and not have to change out the exhause as I am limited in $$$.

Yes, you can drive around daily, using the tow, or even economy tune, with a stock exhaust. Pulling it and towing on stock is perfectly fine.
