It's probably the way you are measuring. Measure from the center of one stud, skip one, and then to the outside edge of the next one...

Its probably how you are measuring them. On a 5 hole bolt pattern you want to measure across three holes....start at the far edge of one hole (or stud) skip the next hole (or stud) and measure to the center of the next hole (or stud)

MRW - How to measure bolt pattern

try it again and see what you come up with

The dim. is checked on a 5 lug pattern from the outside of one stud to the center of the 2nd stud. this should give you 5 1/2 inches. thus 5 x 5 1/2.

Still learning something new from this site. I had always thought you measured from center hole to center hole. So measuring it the way you (and others) describe, I get 5.5"
Thanks

The measurement is actually the diameter of the bolt circle.
If you had two bolts straight across from each other (like a 6 or 4 bolt pattern would be) you would meassure opposite bolts center to center.
The method described above works on 5 bolt pattern where it is difficult to tell where the bolt circle would be straight across from one of the bolts.

Sam, your bolt pattern is 5on 5 1/2. Ford used that same bolt pattern with few exceptions untill 1997, when they switched to a metric pattern. What was posted above is correct, you'll get about 1/4" of error when you measure a 5 bolt pattern center to center, which causes great confusion when buying used 5 bolt wheels from someone who doesn't understand what there measuring. Friend O mine sold some "Ford" wheels on ebay, listed as 5 on 4 1/2, and shipped them two states away. Turns out they were GM wheels, 5 on 4 3/4 measured improperly, and he had to pay ups to get them back, and lost the deal.
