front springs, which end is front

I have just removed my front springs from my 56 to replace worn bushes, but am confused which end of the spring faces the front of the truck.
One end of the spring has an extra leaf wrapped around the end, i think this goes to the front , but the previous owner had it facing the rear.
Can anyone tell me which way it is supposed to go please.

On my 55, which is the same chassis as a 56, the end with the double leaf coil goes toward the front.
