97 ranger wont start, has spark and fuel

my buddies truck died on him while going down the interstate. its a 97 ranger 3.0 auto.

we had it towed to my house thinking it may have been a frozen a/c comp.

anyways after realizing it wasnt that i checked the fuel pressure and got 40psi while cranking.

i hooked up an inline spark tester to the driverside middle plug and it lit up.

we tryed spraying some starting fluid into the intake and it shot out a huge flame after cranking for a bit.

im thinking it the timing chain but im not a ranger expert so i figured id ask some.
