Not exactly a high fuel mileage combo. Especially at 235k miles when some wear factors could be playing in depending on how well it's been taken care of. You can try a tune up and stuff, but I'm not sure how much better you'll be able to do with the combo. Especially with 4.10 gearing on the highway.

I was tickled to get 13.8 for that one tank. I have a Suzuki Sidekick Sport for 4x4 tasks and better-mileage around-town driving, but it won't carry a ton and a half plus like my back-of-the-envelope calculations say the F250 will. (It doesn't have quite the panache the truck does either.)

Yeah, that's decent.

That's good to have something with a bit better fuel mileage. I know what you mean about the truck though, I love the feeling I get driving mine.

Parts for 3G Alternator

Hello and good morning.

I was at the boneyard yesterday looking for parts; it was late so I did not take any tools with me. There are several 3G's there on a shelf but I did not see any cables or mega fuses. Will a 3G accept my current wiring from the 2G?

Where did you get the cables, mega fuse, etcetera?

Thanks!

Boon

There's absolutely no way your getting 11mpg with a 460 and 4.10 combo

If you're talking about "brokevet", he's got a 351.

Also, 11 MPG isn't totally out of the picture with a 460 and 4.10 depending on how/where you drive.
Before my engine rebuild, my 466 carb'd could consistently get 11.5 MPG highway @60 MPH running a C6 (no overdrive), 4.56 gearing, and 37s. That's similar to worse than an overdrive trans and 4.10s. And, no I wasn't calculating by my odometer... Used a GPS and google maps to verify.
Haven't done any straight highway since my rebuild and bore to .040. It's also probably not really "broken in" yet either (only about 700 miles on rebuild), but I've still tracked 9-9.5 MPG with about 50/50 city/highway by GPS and google maps. Winter blend fuel too...

Sorry to kinda rant, but with a decent setup and a well-tuned engine (key point!!!), you're not totally doomed. Still not terribly practical to drive unless you're towing/hauling.

That's true... Let me chime in here.. I have a 92 f150 with 5 speed.. 3.89s and 302.. I get 10 all around but it's because of my heavy right foot.. Now if I keep my foot out of it.: I get 15-17 all day long.. It's just too hard to keep foot out of it when you have true dual dynomax exhaust lol..

added a 12v power outlet, blew the fuse, replaced it, painted my rear bumper step with 3m rubberized paint (looks new), added a nice 4in tip, tucked it after the rear-end. zip-tied some loose wires and called it a day.

That combo would allow for an update on the Archimedes quote. "Give me a place to drive (and a suitably sturdy hitch) and I shall tow the Earth".

I have a 460, C6 with 3.54's in My '87 F250, and I don't really worry about mileage as I don't drive outside of town. If I can get that stupid Gear Vendors OD unit to work, it would do better on the highway I'm sure

I managed to conflate the Suzuki and the Ford somehow. The Ford is a 1992; the Suzuki is the 1996 model.

to complete my conversion to all power windows and to have remote keyless entry, I scored a stock unused harness for the dash.

Comes with RKE wiring, all new not one wire clipped so everything is all good!

Re-torqued the collector bolts. Been letting them heat cycle for a week now. Still no leaks.

Then I realized how dumb I can be. Gave the truck a quick look over and found I had left the front hubs locked. Not sure when I locked them but they were locked.....

Hauled a small load of scrap metal off... $32.00 literally just laying around the shed.

Might try to start hauling more and more off as I can find it; And see where that leads to...
