well about two days ago I got stuck... then out of frustration I slammed on the brake pedal and broke the front drivers steel brake line.... one of the two original still on the truck. So I thought I'd do both front so all the steel lines are new... but the the bleader on the drivers calaper would not come loose so I had to buy a calaper also... thank god the passanger came free. Now I have to bend and run all the new lines and put the calaper on it... fun fun fun in a garage with a ****ty karsonie heater.

The second one started the truck exactly once, and the plunger refused to push the engagement mechanism forward from that point forward. The third one was built without bearings, so it technically worked but the shaft wobbled around so much that it sounded like it was going to explode. Once started, it rattled like a ****, where at idle I could hear the "internal starter rattling" inside the cab with the windows up.

The one I installed today seems to be a good one. Engages right away, starts the engine quickly, no clicking or rattling or grinding.

Now if I could get my hydralic clutch system not to leak I'd be a happy guy.
really? not usually an issue , sold lots of them. are you getting them from a dealer or a parts house?

I got them from a family owned auto parts store which gets rebuilt alternators, starters and generators from a reputable rebuilder in Newark NJ. Not sure what happened, as I've never had a problem with either business.

For now, I'm writing it off as a fluke.

Took a section of the exaust off the drivers side manifold to remove two bolts that had rusted and broken off. I just got to get the bolts out now. Wish me luck.......

I put more of mine together and improved how it ran (see project page)

over the xmas week I hope to have it fully on the road and inspected if I can find a nice bumper - my old steel one is rotted under the step pad :-(
