You can fit a 285/70R17 on the stock 17" rims and not have any rubbing issues.

No problem! The BFG All-Terrains are nice. My brother swears by them. I like the looks of and the reviews the Firestone Destination A/T's are getting. I'm leaning towards them when the time comes.

gage2052,

I've got the BFG (they came on the truck with 80% tread) and love them... they ride great on the Hwy and are good through the snow .... they've got an agressive tread and look pretty good on the rig....

I've got the 285/70/17 BFG AT on my 2000 (D-rated). I like them a lot. 40,000 miles on them now and still lots of tread left. Your spedo will read slightly lower (by about 3%)

I have 285's on my EB and love them so far. No issues with rubbing and the ride is more stiff with the air suspension. ( still tolerable ) Alittle louder on the highway and I can also confirm that the speedo is also out by 3%.

tires

I have the Firestone destination A/T for the winter on steel rims and they ride and handle better than the crap conti's that came stock. OK in the snow great in the sand and mud and they are great on the pavement. They have a very square look to them if you like that.

Monster tires on stock rims

I used to have an '01 Expy EB. It needed new shoes. A friend had new Hummer H2 take-offs (BFG AT 315-70-17) that he gave me. So I tried them. I had to trim a little off of the lower valance on the front and they rubbed a bit on the inner fender at full stop. They were HUGE (my wife hated them but I kinda liked them).

I now have an '04 EB with stock sized Dueler AT's. Much more civilized.

Cheers,
John

Okay.. that Expedition looks amazing with the 285/70R17 BFG's!!

Personally I'm contemplating spending the extra bucks and getting the Michelin LTX AT2's.. BUT.. I don't think they "look" as good with the white letters out as the BFG's or Bridgestones.

I could be wrong though... anyone have any pics of the Michelin's?

You wouldn't happen to have any pics of your '01 with the 315's, would you? I can't picture a tire that huge on an Expy and need a visual!
