Thinking of Buying my first Diesel

Thinking of buying a 1996 F-250 with the 7.3 in it. Any observations on how this year was for this model? I've been told by mechanics that 99-00 were the best years for the f-250 7.3. What do yall think?

Never thought I would say this but the way diesel prices are heading I wouldn't recommend getting a diesel. It pains me to say tha, I've owned a diesel truck since 1982 (Chebbie). For most of those years the diesel was always cheaper than Gas. The good ole days

Anyway, I have a 1996 and absolutely love it in spite of the fuel prices. The (NBS) Newer body styles are nice too (99-03) but usually quite a bit more $$. It's going to depend on your wallet. Some guys here are (OBS) Old Body Style owners (94-96) only...so you are going to get a lot of response in that direction. After all you posted your question in the OBS forums.

The newer truck have more HP and TQ + they come with an intercooler so they will support more perf mods up front.

Post some picts and more info on the truck you are looking at and these guys will give you plenty to think about. It's all good.

I love my '96! it's getting 17.5mpg, so it's not too bad (from a gutless chevy gasser that got 12 and couldnt tow)
If you drive a lot, and/or dont have deep pockets, consider biodiesel.
These are wonderful trucks though!
And if you need any help, look no further than FTE!BTW Welcome to FTE!

I wouldn't mid going biodiesel. I had a perfectly good running F150, until I let someone borrow it while I went out of town for a couple months and they let it overheat to the point of a blown head gasket. There's not much out there that'll tow with low mileage for less than 8 grand. I'm going diesel for the rumors I hear of them rolling for 500,000 miles well maintained. I take care of my gas engines (unless my friend borrows it) and I've never gotten past 200,000 miles.

Diesel is great if you tow a lot, you get better MPG than any big block out there, plus you can drive it unloaded and beat it too. Unfortuantely, it will cost you 100 bucks to fill it up. It sucks. Thats for sure.

An f 350 with a 351??? Must have been one of those monday ideas on that truck. Pointless.

i could have gotten more than that with my eyes closed, an hour to pull off a couple popular parts that would sell easy the rest to the scrap yard where i get $75 a ton an f150 at 75 dollars a ton is still over $150
