Are you interested in selling the pass side arm?

It looks like they're selling them individually on their site for $100.

I'm still debating on whether or not I'm going to use Cheby TRE's or Heims. I'm leaning towards heims.

 

On a dedicated trail rig use heims and on street driven vehicle use TREs. Heims will wear out quickly if driven on the street.

 

Why is that? I only drive my truck about 5-6k per year.

I was thinking about using these from Ballistic Fab:

XM-12/14 7/8" w/ 3/4" ball CrMo rod end w/ kevlar liner

 

I think its just their nature. I dont have a real solid answer for you. Those look nice though.

 

From what I've read, they just wear out faster. Then you end up with excessive play in the heims and your steering gets sloppy. For on road usage at highway speeds, thats pretty dangerous, if you ask me. I'll always stick to TRE's for on road usage... at least until I go full hydro.

That said, Ballistic fab is very high quality stuff. They also have excellent customer service. I've only ordered from them twice, and am still waiting on my most recent order.

 

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I just don't get anyone's reasoning as to why they would supposedly wear out any faster.

If you think about it, they are really kind of the same. The only difference is that the TRE is totally encapsulated where as the heim is open on the end.

They are both really just a ball and socket. In fact, the heavy duty heims are chrome moly and they have way more material on the perimeter of the socket and therefore stronger.

Other than the fact they aren't sealed (and they don't need to be because of the kevlar liner), what would make them wear out any faster?

If I am missing something here, please elaborate.

 

STG, I know this thread is OLD but I found it searching and found it incredibly relevant.

So you did crossover with 4" of lift and mentioned that if the arm had been shaped right, you could have done hi-steer, correct?

I'm looking at these arms: Dana 60 Raised Hi-Steer Arms (Pair)

They have the separate hole for TRE and DL. If you had these arms, do you believe there would have been any interference (with the x-member or otherwise) doing hi-steer with only 4" lift?
