Who cares about either one? My (paid for) escort with 165k o it still gets 35 mpg consistently... and I have no car payment. So, buying a BMW or Prius is simply creating personal debt in order to make some weak statement. If MPG were that important to everone, there would be a lot more scooters on the road.

Yeah, but a 5 series BMW is a heck of a lot bigger and more comfortable than a Prius.

And you came to this riveting discovery by owning one and actually trying to fit a suitcase in it?

Or is this leading up to more mindless propaganda that ineviditably will get another thread locked.....

I don't mind a car being small.

I had a 63 Mini Cooper... EVERYTHING is big.
The thing I have problem is. My Mini had similar interior room... not joking! And got similar fuel economy, but went a whole lot quicker. And it happened to be 35years old!
If I were to buy Foreign BMW would be my choice.
I have always hankered for an E34 M5.

Maybe its just my grandpa-esque love for 4 door sleepers

The paid for escort (CAR!!) may work for yourself, but not everyone wants to drive an older "beater" (Not saying yours is a beater, but a beater compared to a brand new car of any brand)

I could get away with driving an older f250, but I chose to drive a newer one because of styling, comfort, power and reliability.

There has gotta be people out there that have those reasons in mind when buying a beamer, or a prius!

i like the bmw. the prius is small, well too small for my taste, comfort and sanity. where i work we have one and a hybird hilander.

i saw today thins morning on the news that they came out with a hybrid tahoe, neat and all but what a joke. they did not one time (that i heard at least) mention the fuel economy of it. also when asked the price they said something like "its in the comparable price range of our normal buyers" but when flashed up on the tv the price, it was $38k for the normal one and $53k for the hybrid!

$15k buys a whole lot of fuel in my opinion. so what is the point?

plus the whole bottom line to fuel costs is how much out of budget is it effecting. if someone is only spending 4% of their budget on fuel, not much is going to wedge them to do anything different when that goes up to 8%.

thats why i geta chuckle when someone says "gas must not be too expensive because i saw a tahoe flying down the raod doing 80!". well, the person that can afford that tahoe can probably afford the fuel in it just fine.

that is what gets me about the bmw, people that can afford that thing probably have not much financial problems affording fuel.

Yes, I do know what a Prius looks like. I also have a friend who I went to University with who drives one and lives quite a distance from me. He seemed to have NO PROBLEM driving his family down for a week in it with their luggage.

So I ask you again, did you make this conclusion about the "not fitting a suitcase in it" from your experience? Or are you just expressing your content for Toyota as you so often do...

Good points.

I will add that I did have an Escape Hybrid for a year or so as work vehicle and in the city is where it ONLY shines. And in the city you have to be really gingerly on the gas pedal to keep the electric motor going from the lights. ( which we all know in a city can be bothersome for you and others )

On the highway it averaged 26mpg and nothing better and that's where the majority of my driving takes place.

Just on a sidenote. This is the only vehicle that I have ever had that left me stranded. A computer module problem rendered the Escape "dead" in Winnipeg Canada in the dead of winter. Needless to say I could have froze and had to rent a car to get home.
