Thumbs down my F350 with high mileage

I am not bashing Ford, I have driven Fords all my life, well except in high school when I was fond of the 283 and 327. I consider my post a consumer ALERT. I don't see a listing in my manual for having to replace the exhaust flex tube connections at 40-60K intervals. If you have 128K on your 2008, 6.4 and have had a better experience speak up. Love to hear from you.

As for being truthful, I challenge anyone to disprove what I have written. I have posted the VIN number, 1FTWW33RX8EA13616. The maintainance record speaks for itself. I have done all routine maintenance required in the interest of keeping my investment in the best possible condition. Down time costs me money. In my post I did not include factory recall fixes, only what I've had to repair.

Pulling capacity of the F350 is 28K pounds. The TV commercial advertises that. Most weights at scales are 22,000 total. Truck, trailer and load. I am an under 26K hauler.

If you guys are not interested in my experience just let me know. You can find out for yourself. I thought you would like a heads up.

There have been other posts similar to this, with less mileage, in the 6.4L forum.

Nelkef,
I'm not trying to say you are dishonest, just wanted you to step up and prove yourself. This wouldnt be the first time someone has infiltrated the ranks of FTE trying to beat the blue oval. Thanks for the heads up. I'm not about to buy a new one, but thanks for the consumer report.

...But you have to admit...a troll noise is must for the forum! Snkoink....

The best 2008 F-350 DRW can be configured to tow 18,700 in a 5th wheel configuration. You should be stepping up to an F-450.

Here's a copy of the towing guide, maybe you should read it sometime?

Still thats no excuse of it to fail like that.

March 2007 to March 2008= 365 days and 128K miles = 350.7 miles per day/7days a week. 60 mph = 5.8 hours of drive time per day.

5 days a week at 492.3 miles per day 60 mph = 8.2 hours of drive time.

Are you a team driver? I don't see how you can rack up that many miles unless you worked constant for an entire year. Plus take into account the "5 weeks out for repair" too.

I would think that if you were going to put that many miles on a truck, you should buy commercial, even a cheaper freightliner would make more sence. I asume that you have a CDL since you are obviously "FOR HIRE". If not you are driving illegal and without the proper insurance.

I wouldn't use my F350 to haul 20k on a DAILY bases. I have used it to haul some heavy and long loads but it is not the right truck for the miles and loads that you are hauling.

I personaly think that you may be a safety risk, given the truck, load size, miles, hours, ?insurance? and ?licenese?.

This is just my opinion. As far as the issues with the truck, I am sure that your are on the EXTREME end of the user spectrum. You put more miles on in one year than most will do in 3 or 4 years.

That F350 should have no problem hauling 20k around like that. My 99 F350 was licensed to gross 42k. I put 105k miles on it in just under 12 months hauling cars and ltl frieght in all lower 48 states. The only problems I had was clutches in the 6spd. Ford replaced 3 under warranty I replaced the last one.

BTW I did make the switch to a medium duty truck. Big mistake. If you are going to go bigger than 1 ton you might as well go all the way to a big truck. The operating cost are about the same. The advantage to a 1 ton is lower operating cost. Tires, oil changes, insurance, fuel cost(suppose to be) are all much lower on a F350 vs IH 4700 or similar. Yet you get the same rate to haul 3 or 4 cars. If you are going to increase your operating cost you better be able to haul more cars.

I just don't understand how its possible. Look at his last post, stating that the truck sat for the past 2 months, that makes my point even stronger.
