plowing with my 1999 f150
I'm looking into buying a used plow for my 1999 5.4 extended cad short bed
The plows a 8 foot curtis PRO3000 hitch and go... anyone have any experence plowing with this truck? It it too much for the truck to handle?
Guys asking 2 grand for the plow, im going to offer less but does that sound fair?

Well, it is technically to light of a truck to carry a plow. A Super Duty would be better.
What do you plan on plowing with this truck? Residential? Commercial? How many places? Are you a person who will be really aggresive when plowing?
I have a 2001 F-150 that does NOT have the Heavy Duty package (7700 series). I did a couple things to help carry a 800 pound plow on the front end (including the mounting hardware). I installed Timbrens all the way around. I also carry at least 500 pounds of ballast (salt) behind the rear axle.
This is one of two F-150s (the other is a 99) that has a plow on it. We plow commercial and residential properties. I try to take care of my truck when plowing but it still works well. I am actually impressed with how it performs.
So, with that all said it just depends on what you want to do. There are other plows out there that are lighter. That price sounds about right. Good luck.

P.S. If you are doing a fair amount of plowing a good set of winter tires are worth their weight in gold.

I have a 2003 w/7700 pkg. Plowing is tough on trucks especially lower ball joints. First time you go into a bank with a full blade you will see what I am talking about especially if it is wet and heavy. Timbrens up front will help but be ready for lower ball joint replacement more frequently. If you aren't doing it commercially than it probably will be ok.
