Question 55 F350 4x4 Conversion

I have a '55 F350 DRW, I would like to put '73-'79 F250/350 4x4 running gear under it. Is it possible? Engine would be either FE or 400 w/ 4 speed depending on the donor truck.

That's what I'm doing. I picked up a 78 F250 4x4 with a 400 4spd. I'm going to mount my 54 F100 cab on it with some 56 F600 front fenders and running boards.

Here's what I'm using for a chassis donor.

From the searching and measureing it looks like I'll have to modify the firewall and fabricate a transmission tunnel to clear the motor, transmission and transfercase. And I think the easiest way to accomplish this is just to cut the section of firewall and floor out of the 78 cab on my donor truck.

For the cab mounts I've been told to just use the 54's stock cab mount frame brackets. The front brackets need to be trimmed around an inch per side.

But I'll let you know latter this spring/early summer when I start the work on mine.

The donor truck looks to have some good pieces on it also.

It might have a couple useable/fixable body parts but the body is much rougher then it appears in the picture. It's got a lot of rust, bondo and many layers of paint. Once I start tearing it down I'll check everything over really good and anything that's useable that I don't need will be listed in the classified section.

I'm in the process of converting my 52 F-3 over to 4x4. I'm using the stock frame and in the rear I have swapped in a Dana 60 out of a 1969 F-250 (same width as the 52 axle and is a direct bolt in). For the rest of the driveline I'm using a mid 70's 460, along with a NP-435/NP-205 combo out of a 1979. For the front axle I have a 1977 Dana 44HD low pinion axle that I will be narrowing a total of 9 inches to match the width of the stock 52 axle (I'll be taking 3 inches out of the drivers side, 6 out of the passenger)
