Autolite/Motorcraft 4300 4-V carb
Its on a '70 460. Want to keep it stock.
1 - On the rear of the carb, right below the top rim, is a white plastic T, that has 2 pipes to it, each about an inch long. 1 pipe faces back, the other faces down. What's this for?
2 - The engine has the coil of tubing down in the intake manifold, to heat up air going to the choke. The connection from the intake manifold to the choke is there, but the fresh air source from ? to the intake coil is missing. I can't figure out where the filtered air was supposed to come from.
3 - Does anybody know how thick the stock carb to intake manifold spacer was supposed to be? This one is about a 1/4 inch thick, including the gaskets on each side of it. Its not thick enough, the lower rim of the air cleaner hits the coil, presses down pretty hard on the plug wires at the distributor, etc., and won't seal around the top of the carb due to the interference. The air cleaner looks good, not bent or warped or anything.
All thoughts appreciated, have many 460 questions to ask yet. Thanks!

LAST EDITED ON 13-Dec-00 AT 07:36 PM (EST)[p]I can answer #3, but I won't be of much help with the first two questions. My 460 is a '78 with the spread bore configuration. The spacer is somewhere between 3/4" and 7/8" thick. The vaccuum port on the back of my 4300 is plugged off, and my choke hose is plugged off as well. A previous owner did this, not me.
